Things that are terrible about Code Veronica:

Enemies aren't scary visually, they somehow looks less defined and cool than classic RE zombies.
Area design and art design is incredibly weak.
Wesker becomes Neo, has many chances to murder Claire and Chris, doesn't for some reason.
Puzzles are incredibly lacking, game relies of fetching and delivering way too much.
Boss fights all sucked.
Tons of scenarios where you're fucked if you didn't manage your invetory for upcoming and unknown shit.

I dont think any Resident Evil is bad. I can replay any of them.

Zero is good, but having to swap items around is annoying. The fact it is one game now instead of two discs could help with progression as well.

I played zero when it came out.  Its good.  The main thing it suffered from was that REmake had come out just a few months before hand and its a much much better game and so there was a bit of fatigue with it.

foh zero is worse than cv and the worst numbered re.  let's go over why:

-barely any zombies. most of the enemies and bosses are giant bugs or animals. that's boring
-you control two characters at once. most of the time they follow you, but around strong enemies and the last boss you're fucked
-no item boxes. you leave items on the ground which sounds good but just means more backtracking
-THE FUCKING HOOKSHOT. 3/4 of the way thru the game you randomly need a hookshot you used at the beginning. since there's no item boxes this means you gotta run all the way back to the start.  then the game puts a bunch of new enemies in to get in your way. ridiculous padding. also iirc the game does it again right before the end
-the only minigame is a shitty collect a thon that forces you to do it all in one go, which takes over an hour. there's no saves.

the presentation is real good, but overall its frustrating and kind of boring.

I value RE6 for its mechanics. It has busted as fuck design choices when it comes to levels and gameplay sections, but I love the fuck outta the game due to it combat and story.

RE5 might be the most competent yet boring AAA third person shooter of all time.

Don't mistake the low ranking for REmake as me thinking it's a bad game. It isn't. It's just that the game isn't fun for me to play. Crimson Heads, backtracking for oil, the haunting atmosphere. The game is scary as fuck and I just can't replay it. Objectively I think it's the best traditonal RE but in terms of me wanting to play it at any given time? I'd prefer the original.

Speaking of which, post-4 the one title I really want a PC port of but never will get is the Outbreak series. There's so much raw potential there for the classic survival horror scenarios to be done in/with but Capcom went pure-action horror co-op with 5/6.

Outbreak was released at the wrong time completely. Broadband wasn't the standard, would've been really rad to play Outbreak with other people (my family had dial up until 2006).

Apparently the remake is really good when it comes to visuals, but all the control schemes are fucked. Which is really dumb and weird, since REmake HD had great preset control schemes.

Seeing a ton of complaints about gameplay. How this game felt tedious back in 2002, and that it hasn't aged well at all with its gameplay. Thank you Positive Touch for laying out the design issues, saved me from playing a weak RE.

Nah, they're there through the game. Just used sparingly.

Also blowing through on Easy reminds me how much I dislike 0 and Code Veronica compared to 1/Remake-3. Those I can go "yeah, I want to replay this" at the end of them. I just beat 0 after 10 years about 30 mins ago and I'm like "ugh, I have to do this again for infinite ammo?"

Why I don't like RE5:

Weapons weren't as cool or varied compared to RE4. While RE4 may have less weapons, each weapon felt really different. That combined with getting a special weapon ability for fully upgrading and RE4 gets the edge there.

RE5 isn't spooky at all. People say RE4 isn't scary, but there are a lot more tense moments due to enemy design and how some confrontations played out.

RE4's story was goofy and is endearing in a fun, dumb way. RE5's story is just dumb with no fun.

Boss fights in RE5 were good, RE4's were much better.

Level design. RE5 has some really shitty areas spread throughout the entire game.

Fuck co-op.


I know I just compared RE5 to RE4, which is considered one of the best games of all time, but if your game is a sequel to RE4, and has the same exact mechanics and gameplay, but it ends up being worse in every way barring a few small things, that sorta sucks ass.

RE5 isn't a bad game, I just don't like it. And some RE5 content is paid dlc, which I have never gotten.

Yeah. 5 isn't bad, but it's basically just a forced co-op clone of 4. The one good thing about 5 I'll admit is I liked the 9 slot item system that was a throw back to the 0-3 system. When you mastered that Mercenaries mini-game became hot fire while combining/reloading during climb animations or melee animations.

Comparing 5 to 4 is stupid to begin with considering 4 is the best game of all time. So it was your fault playing them back to back to begin with with the expectation it'd ever be on the same level. it's like comparing RE3 to 2. There's no way 3 is going to ever live up to 2. Does this make 3 not worth it? Nope.

There's nothing like the sun laser maze in 4. There's nothing like Licker lab in 4. There's nothing the chapter with the towns separated by the boat in 4. Saying 5 is a tribute to 4 makes no sense.

You can compare RE5 to RE4 every day of the week because they share the majority of mechanics. Imagine using that argument with DMC4 when comparing it against DMC3, its a weak deflection.

Shit, RE5 felt like more of a escort mission than RE4. Most of the stress with RE5 comes from managing an AI partner's inventory and hoping they don't waste it all shooting you in the back of the head. I was never phased by fighting human enemies or bosses because of their design or what they did in combat, the stress would be "what the fuck is this dumbo AI gonna do next."

RE5 is unique when it comes to its set pieces in the RE franchise, I'l give it that.

The only Resident Evil babies are the ones that cry and moan how RE4 killed the franchise. RE5 isn't some niche title that gets undeserved hate. Most people loved RE5. Some people didn't.
