What I don't understand is that games like RE and MGS have replaying and speed running as a core part of their game design. Like, that's literally half of what you're doing in an RE game: unlocking shit till you get to beast mode. I guess some people don't find unlockables enticing, but I fucking love them. Getting incrimintally better shit and mastering the game to get rewarded with even better shit, and hard difficulty modes is a blast. I just don't get it. So when Walrus asks "who plays RE for unlockables?"
I'm like

I mean, let's take a look at unlockables throughout the series:
RE DC:
Beat the game on any mode with Chris or Jill in less than 3:00 - Unlimited Rocket Launcher
Complete the game in Advanced mode and save all your partners - Unlimited Magnum
Complete the game once in Training or Standard mode with either character and save all your partners. - new costumes
And RE2?
Beat scenario 1 on normal difficulty in less than 2:30 with an A or B ranking - Infinite Rocket Launcher
Beat scenario 2 on normal difficulty in less than 3 hours with an A or B ranking - Machine Gun
Beat the second scenario on Normal difficulty in less than 2:30 and get an A or B ranking. - Gatling Gun
Complete scenario 1 and scenario 2 and get an A ranking on one of them, then save your game. - unlock Hunk
Complete six scenarios and get an A ranking on one of them, then save your game. - unlock Tofu
I guess most people when they're done with a game, even if they really like it, they go to the next game. I like to continue playing them until mastery and I'm fond of games that give mastery an incentive (unlockables) but these games have always had extra content and hidden shit upon hidden shit and it amazes me people have never seen it nor wanted to see it. They're literally made for speed running. It's like they've seen half the game but

different strokes.
