I can't say I am too surprised he suffered from lifelong depression. His book Medium Raw goes to some pretty dark places, it was very hard to read that one all the way through, unlike his other memoirs.

I was sad to see it as well.

People love you. This internal battle must be fought. Know that you will be missed, and more than that, know that you'll hurt those you love. Struggle through it. Survive. This live is the one version of you that gets to influence those around you, and you are ALWAYS treasured more than you know.

My father killed himself, and the damage it did to his surviving loved ones was never part of his intent. Embrace the fact that you are loved. Know it, and learn how to continue.

You are, each and every one of you, a miracle. Worthy of love. Know it.

Bless up.

That's a really touching thing to say Chrono. Its something I struggle with constantly. I can see people love me, I know people love me, but I dont feel love or feel loved.

There's always hope for learning how to feel loved or finding love in ourselves, for ourselves.

The guy made it to 61. He inspired millions and made others happy while fighting this lifelong battle. He lived his own life, did what made him happy and didn't follow the safe way through it.

He should be celebrated for that and not scorned or feel disappointment in his actions. He got to go out on his own terms instead of slowly falling apart.

I think as long as you don't leave behind young kids or financial problems for your spouse, you should be able to exit when you want (if you want).

This one fucking hurts. I've watched all his episodes and it's the best thing on CNN.

I thought he overcame his troubles. Crazy how depression is so hard to kick.

You dont kick depression, if your brain is wired the way it is or you experience significant trauma, its a lifelong disease.

And taking medications for any mental illness doesnt "fix" somebody, not to mention how stigmatized mental illness is. Mental illness is a lifelong disease that you have to figure out how to cope with and treat with techniques you have to use your entire life.

Great posts, guys.

One of the most insidious aspects of depression is the feelings of worthlessness. At the bottom, it's incredibly easy to believe your loved ones would be better off without you and a burden would be lifted for them with you gone. It's a warped projection and one suffering through suicidal thoughts can easily end up falling prey to, unfortunately.

He killed himself because he was full of self-loathing. His personal views of life were scummy.
