Stardew Valley
« on: February 28, 2016, 11:09:23 AM »

Got this kinda on a whim after seeing a bit about it online, and it got it hooks in me pretty good. It's basically Animal Crossing mixed with Harvest Moon with a bit of Zelda dungeon stuff on the side and a little bit of plot.  So far I've lost an egg hunt, killed a bunch of slimes and then died in a cave, fished a can of soda out of the ocean, and got turned down by every girl at the spring dance.

Really charming stuff, and five hours in it does a good job of doling out content at a slow but steady pace. I still have yet to build my first structures or upgrade anything significant, so I'm hoping that means the endgame content takes a while to get to.

Is this another game where it's a town with zero people of color? looks good, but kinda tired of playing games that act like people like you don't exist. i bet you can't even customize your avatar's skin color.

Apparently you can! GJ.

I'm not familiar with RF but looking at a couple videos I'd say they're a little similar. This is much heavier on crafting and AC style collecting and less combat oriented than RF seems to be at first glance.

You asked a question and answered it in the same post? Was this a stealth edit?

Definitely interests me but I worry it's a time sink game. I would also prefer pad support. Would like to play with my arcade stick.

It works with Xbox 360/One controllers, not sure about any other kind.

Watched some twitch streams and it seemed a little too slow.

I do have an issue with the movement speed, I think bumping it up a few ticks would do away with the slow feeling that game has. But, it is meant to be a bit slow, like virtually all these kinds of games are, just by the nature of the way they're structured.

You'll probably need a keyboard to supplement it but as Rumbler mentioned the 360 pad is supported, and if you want to use the stick I recommend using this to map the buttons as you see fit http://www.x360ce.com/

And yeah the run speed is a bit of a drag. It works for the pace of the game for the most part, but seeing "it's getting late" in the caves when you're low on food is never fun

Stick can run in xinput. Why is a kb necessary?

There are some inputs that I don't think are mapped to the controller, but I can't say specifically what off the top of my head (the store page lists 'partial controller support')

Anybody reached the bottom of the cave yet? I'm past floor 110 by now, but it still keeps going.
