Ground Zeroes is literally a 15-30 min game unless you're a completion. You can finish that and then do Binary Domain right after if you're not wanting to jump into Phantom Pain.

The Last Remnant is awful. Skip it.

Binary Domain deserves all the love Vanquish gets.

Vanquish isn't a bad game, but its average in every way imaginable except for the sense of speed. Way too much shit on screen happening at once, the dialog and writing is awful, soundtrack is way too subdued, most of the weapons feel useless due to how much you swap them out, some of those weapons feel useless in general, set pieces are way too short and mediocre, boring characters, boring boss fights (except for the last one), boring setting.

Binary Domain on the other hand, awesome characters, fun dialog, snappy writing, set pieces are fun and help with pacing, story is Bladerunner combined with Terminator, great weapon balance, great boss fights, soundtrack is rad, enemies break apart into millions of bits, setting is excellent.

Binary Domain has a weak first hour, after that, the game is a classic.

Well, if you're going for 100% it'll be like 2-10 hours depending on if you watch S-rank videos to cheese the side-ops and getting the tapes and all that. But yeah, Ground Zeroes is super short. The Phantom Pain is the one that'll take you 50-100 hours to 100%.

The Witcher 2 - Requires like 1.5 playthroughs, Dark Mode super easy
Dishonored - Really fun game to 1000, not difficult
Binary Domain - You wont get 1000, the online is kaput unless you want to boost. Fun game though
Ground Zeroes - Really easy, but super boring to 1000
Resident Evil 6 - Requires multiple playthroughs and some online I think
The Last Remnant - Amazing 1000, can be difficult if you dont play correctly, tons of missables

Finally, reviews that matter :bow

Started Ground Zeroes last night and cleared the main mission. Fucking superb. I'm a whore for the MGS lore and this is a good setup. Evil skull dude is sweet. Game seems to be the best stealth game ever? Staggering lighting and weather effects. I really thought I was super soldier infiltrating a base. Looking forward to checking out the other scenarios and playing around in the sandbox. Gonna play Phantom Pain ASAP (gonna wait until I scoop a next gen console tho)

Binary Domain up next. Not too worried about cheevos (as I cant get 1000) so I'll just play this one for "fun"

Phantom Pain on 360 is weird. Looks like one of the best game's on the 360 at times, while also sporting N64 textures in some areas. Framerate can be solid in some areas, terrible in others. Its definitely playable, bit inconsistent. The entire game is there, no compromises were made.

If the 360 version is like the PS3 version: You should probably wait unless you really want to play Phantom Pain right now. The pop-in and "dithering" of the entire game along with the resolution downgrade definitely hurts image quality.

Excellent retort
 :letsfukk

I actually rented it day 1 and was able to get a number 1 ranking in the world on a couple of missions. Think I played through it the same day I rented it, thought it was an alright/good game and nothing more. Bought a used copy and a digital copy later, isn't fun to replay to be honest.

With how people treat it online, you'd think its the Devil May Cry of third person shooters. I've never seen a comprehensive post describing why Vanquish is the best thing ever, its greatness is to be assumed like its the nectar that fuels the special fellow hivemind.

It's the ARS/suit system. But honestly, both are pretty mediocre shooters. Binary Domain at least has the character gimmick going for it (even if I don't like that), and Vanquish has it's small (what... 5 second?) slow-mo gimmick going for it.

Binary Domain's guns have a lot of power behind them, mainly due to how enemies break apart piece by piece. In Vanquish, it'll be limb by limb, in Binary Domain, it feels like you're destroying robots with every shot.

I don't see how Binary Domain is mediocre, compared to Gears of War, the biggest third person franchise next to Uncharted last gen, Binary Domain wipes the floor with Gears. Gears has always had terrible campaigns but Gears 3 has excellent multiplayer and co-op.

Gears campaigns have grade D dialog with grade D storytelling. Weapon variety is way too limited for single player, every single non little bug enemy is a bullet sponge.

If Binary Domain is mediocre, than what third person shooters weren't? Dead Space 1&2, Max Payne 3 (look at steam reviews and reception besides neogaf, any backlash is usually from salty Remedy fanboys), and Binary Domain would be my top picks for single player third person shooters last gen.

I don't think Vanquish is bad, but it doesn't have that many redeeming qualities as a shooter.

People who can't write for shit attempted to write a G.I. Joe satire is why the story in Vanquish is ass. It's also ass how the game insists on not just having cut-scenes, but also those hideous first person slow-walking codec conversation segments that just ruin the balls to the wall pace the game otherwise has.

Other wise the game is amaze and I definitely consider it in the same vein as Devil May Cry or Shinobi(PS2) where a kind of action game is adapted from 2D to 3D (Vanquish drawing on the run n gun 2D action games). The campaign is a little bloated and I wish there was a weapon loadout system rather than finding weapons in the levels, tho the game is obviously balanced for the latter. The challenge missions are flawless tho, and the game is a classic on those alone. It's a shame it's a platinum game, aka never sells shit so there won't be more or even a pc port where I can tear out those assy cut scene walk-abouts :'(

(comparing it to Binary Domain doesn't fly since that's a RE4 style, third person shooter that has very little in common with vanquish imo)

Those are my biggest beefs with Vanquish's campaign. There'll be a good three of five minute chunk of intense gameplay, and there's a cutscene for Sam and Steven Blum to talk shit about each other for 30 seconds. You can skip it, but then you get a call from short hair blonde chick about robots breaking through the wall in sector V, get over there immediately.  This happens constantly. Story shit so boring and uninteresting but you're forced to see it via slow walking sections.

The dialog isn't funny or endearing, it isn't so bad its funny, its the most sterile and safe shit possible for a game where you thrust across the battlefield and use slo mo to shoot your own grenades out of the air.

Weapon upgrade system also makes the assault rife the best weapon in the game half way through, doesn't even make sense to use a lot of other weapons when you have a damage boost and upgraded magazine capacity.

Never tried the challenge maps or mode, will try that now. The core gameplay and slo mo is great, everything surrounding it in the campaign is bad.

Max Payne 3 also has significant pacing issues, but the gore porn and James Mccaffrey's performance as Max make up for it. For the shit I give Vanquish, I've played the Max Payne 3 campaign 7 or 8 times by now.  :lol

challenge mode is just tight combat scenarios strung together, tightly. aka all the good shit, none of the bad. Def better than the campaign, tho the discrepancy isn't as aggressive as something like RE6 campaign vs merc mode or whatever. Vanquish would be infinitely improved, and one of the action game GOATs, if the whole thing was structured like the challenge mode tho.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this. IMO Gears is better than both. But for me the third person shooter ranking would be something like:

1. Uncharted (because I prefer it's character interactions and the shooting is casual and quick enough to be over and done with, throw in the vertical-gunplay in the multiplayer before ND ruined it)
2. Gears
3. Vanquish/Binary Domain
4. Spec Ops: The Line

I'd have to go and look for an exhaustive list of third person shooters from the era, but Japan generally is really weak when it comes to shooters IMO.

Play Dishonored bruh.

The combat is fun; you got upgradeable weapons (guns/blades), gadgets, environmental hazards, and mythical powers bestowed by whale dieties.

Gameplay wise, it allows for stealth/action/or combined playstyles, and lethal or nonlethal approaches that extend to bosses as well.

All of this has varying effects on story beats, environmental elements, and the ending you receive, though it's all relatively minor.

Not trying to regurgitate game case bullet points or overstate these features, but I do think Dishonored is less linear than most AAA 360/PS3 era offerings.

Def a game that allows for multiple playthroughs and experimentation, and I'm sure there are some interesting cheevos that will help fill that void.

HOWEVER,

The shit that makes this game really stick in my brain, a game I played through once back in 2012 as a Redbox rental, is its world building.

It's really well done and kind of reaffirms how dope videogames are as a medium, how well they can immerse you in a setting, sometimes moreso than a book or movie.

Dishonored exist is this weird Victorian steampunk world, where whales are sacred and their oil is more versatile than AstroGlide.

Great voice acting and art helps too, and there's an excessive amount of lore to explore if things click and you wanna special fellow out.

Also I hear the PS4/Xbone port is ass, so you might as well enjoy it on 360.

The DLC is supposedly really good too.

I don't know, I feel saying Vanquish just has "speed" kinda misses the point. The game isn't a cover shooter like pretty much everything else listed. Cover isn't your savior, you only use cover when you've screwed up or need a really quick break. Staying in cover only leads to be overwhelmed. The entire game is about constant movement and balancing that. So movement and positioning actually becomes a mechanic on it's own, unlike any TPS listed here. The game never becomes overwhelming and is one of the few TPS where you easily feel like your in control of the battlefield (which is chaotic) as long as your constantly moving. Hence why the game is compared to a Bullet Hell shooter.

But it also clearly is a Mikami TPS because it barrows from RE4 so much. Positioning in RE4 is important, as is knowing when to take the shot and making sure in that window you get the best shot off. Using the slow down mechanic correctly means you are sliding into it for such a small window and you have to make sure you maximize that time. It's all about killing as fast and effective as possible because you want to keep moving.

And while I think maybe only 3 guns(the shotgun, assault rifle, and machine gun) are the most important ones, the guns do have mechanical uses. Which is again something RE4 excelled at. You want to you use different guns for different enemies and situations. Where as in Gears it doesn't even matter, just use the Lancer or whatever you want. In Vanquish, you really should only use the assault riffle for the chinsy looking robots as going into slowmo slows that gun down and doubles the damage. So if you set yourself up right for great shots, you can easily headshot 5 of those types of enemies at the same time. Assault rifles are good for rapidly hitting tougher enemies  or crowd control and shotguns are obviously great at CC. The other guns have thier uses and Vanquish is great at making you switch up and use the different guns.

Yes the story sucks. Who gives a shit? Either way the aesthetic and mechanical design is cool. Guns feel great even though they are clearly more arcadey and not at all trying to be weighty or real. And it's super fun to play and it opens itself up to very bullet ballet skillful play.

It's a fantastic game and clearly the best TPS of last gen.

Binary Domain was a good game as well., but at the end of the day is just a simple and well done TPS with nice wrapping.

Okay so I've almost got 1000 in Ground Zeroes, just need to run through a few Ops on Hard (again) and I'm done. They padded out the game pretty hard seeing as it takes place on one map but hey, I got it free on GWG and I'm not complaining. Its definitely the best/most elaborate demo ever and I've got a big boner for Phantom Pain now. Will play it when I make the jump to next-gen.

Started Binary Domain. I did the first couple of chapters a few years ago when I bought the game but put it down for some reason. The game seems even better in 2016 as it feels pretty unique for a "gears clone" and the fact that so many AAA games nowadays are Ubisoft copy-pasta snorefests.

Anyhow I couldn't put BD down last night! I'm pretty sure games aren't supposed to be this good. The banter between Dan Marshall and Big Bo is absolutely hysterical -
Bo: "Get a load of the bod on the geisha there! Do you wanna take some time out for some action?"
*choose YES in the dialogue options*
Bo: "Youre a real player Dan! Thats what I like about you!" *respect increases*
I mean that isnt the specific dialogue but every conversation is words to that effect. The shit is absolute genius.

The shooting is awesome and it's mega satisfying blowing stupid robots to bits. I can tell the story is going to be ramping up into some mega WTF Japan shit. Game is a real treat, actual 10/10

Dishonored is next on the list. Going to see if my local video store has the GOTY edition for rent so I can nab all the DLC for cheap

Beat Dishonored last night. Great game! To maximise gamerscore my first playthrough was no kills, no detections, and no magic upgrades. Was kinda challenging in parts, but once you get the hang of "blinking" from cover to cover it gets easier. I also lucked out and found a Bone Charm that made strangulation KOs way faster so yeah. There were a few choke points where I save-scummed aplenty however.

Looking forward to my high-chaos run where I'm going to get revenge on all the assholes I couldn't kill the first time around and go crazy with all the powers I couldnt use! And of course seeing all of the content I missed by taking a b-line stealth approach. I love how detailed and open ended the maps are in this game. The story was cool, you could see the turning point in the arc coming a mile off but it didn't detract from it at all. The writing and voice acting is some of the best I've experienced in a videogame - it takes itself seriously, but is definitely restrained and not ridiculously heavy handed. Hats off to the writers and directors for actually producing tolerable, non-insulting content for adults.

In North America, Dishonored was the fourth best-selling game of October 2012, selling 460,200 physical units, exceeded only by Pokémon Black Version 2, Resident Evil 6 and NBA 2K13.[151] During the 2012 Thanksgiving holiday weekend (23 – 25 November), it was the number-one game on Steam.[152]

Those NA numbers seem healthy enough for new IP, and I'm sure there were plenty more sales in Europe and on Steam. Word of mouth had to have been very good also.

got 1000 in Dishonored, awesome experience. I'll leave it on my HDD in case I ever feel like playing (and paying for) the DLC.

Looks like Last Remnant is has the next best number of votes on the poll so I guess I'll be doing that. Also need to clean out the Evil Within DLC too but the game is too scary :( I'll get to it at some point! Also on my list is mopping up the 1k in Resonance of Fate (why did I stop playing it during the postgame?! I'm going to have to jump in and try and get to grips with the battle system again, at least I can grind forever in the arena). Also, do I really want to finish grinding turtles in FFXIII for the 1k? I got pretty close I think. #achievementwhoreforlife
