Wii U is one big waste of a console
« on: March 25, 2016, 01:20:06 PM »
Who at Nintendo greenlit this console? I am looking at the top 25 metacritic games for Wii U since it came out 3-4 years ago and it is a list only nintards at neogaf will defend.  It's filled with bad ports and the obligatory Mario games. No original Metroid or Zelda (zelda might even be moved to NX), no 3rd party support after 2013. Only one jrpg (which is mediocre). The N64 looks like SNES compared to Wii U's shit library of games.

At this point I believe that the NX will probably be even worse and cater to the mobile market or something lol.

I've had a lot of fun using mine for social games (Nintendo Land, Wii U Party, Wii Fit U) but overall it is the worst console I've owned.

Soundtrack was fucking amazing though.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Captain Toad, and the NES Remix games are pretty fun too for 'smaller' titles.

For you maybe, but anyone who actually likes gameplay and exploration in their JRPG over story it sure wasn't. Easily one of the best jrpgs simply for that.

Add Bayonetta and the upcoming FE# and you've got at least 3 quality games.

Then there's shit like Wonderful 101, Fatal Frame V, and Splatoon. It's a decent system that had some nifty games. Why even haste your time attacking it? Shit is pity.

Well no it doesn't, especially combat. I don't dislike Witcher 3's combat like most but it amounts to just parrying, rolling, and slashing. There's really nothing to it and you become pretty overpowered midway through the game. Also, quite honestly the character progression/rpg part is rather lame and uninvolved.

Xenoblade on the other hand's combat is constantly challenging and very involved. The Soul voice system focuses on the party being offensive based. Something the first one wanted to be ,but didn't communicate very well thanks to still having a healer with Schala. There's no real healer in X and so setting up your Soul Voices and having your parties abilities in sych actually matters. Not just for healing, but also damage output and buffs. If you set your parties abilities in sych with yours you'll basically be pressing those "QTE" buttons all the time and constantly be on the offense. It's also fun because it actually adds a very involved timing aspect to the battle system, which of course can be very tension filled.

It also expands on XB's MMOish aggro type gameplay. Attacks are more diverse now and it's not simply just stagger them. For my character they were focused on simply just buffing physical attacks regardless of position, though if you chose another class your attacks would be all about positioning just like the 1st one.

And this also applies to the mech combat when you take on even bigger monsters and the scale of the combat grows. Except there its not about classess and more about what you attach to your mech that creates your attacks.

Of course character progression and classes are much more in depth in XB then in the Witcher 3. There's so many ways to make your character. Even choosing your abilities within a class effects the makeup of your character and how it interacts with your party.

Oh and most enmies have body parts which is an important part of battle. Choosing body parts to attack is important in either winning or loosing.

There's a lot to the combat and preparation. Witcher 3 doesn't even come close and people's complains about it being a janky and unresponsive action rpg would never be applied to XB.

And the quests at the end of the day are the same gameplay wise. Go here, investigate something, or talk, or kill. It's just obviously Witcher 3 has far better writing, story telling, and quest design. Witcher 3 is a fantastic game. The world is detailed and probably feels more alive then anything else.....but XBX is no slouch and easily one of the best(if not 2nd best) JRPG of this current gen.

I mean can you tell me what there is to dislike it beyond it's non story focus? Yes it has a really undercooked story and characters, but that dosen't mean the game sucks.

Wii U has a decent little library of games.  It's mostly Nintendo titles with a spattering of third party games.  In other words...business as usual.

oh boy, where should I start?

-terrible voice acting with plastic doll characters that you couldnt give a shit about
-spongy enemies and drawn out battles
-mechs are locked out until you're like 30-40 hours into the game
-OST is a big step down from the previous game
-high level enemies will chase you until they kill you if aggravated
-a worse grindfest then the first xenoblade
-story is basically nonexistent because this game is more catered towards MMO gameplay.
-text is supersmall, can barely read
-stupid map implementation with the wii u pad.

game didnt suck, but I did say it was mediocre.

Can't say I agree.

The voice acting wasn't great, but it was pretty typical of pretty much every anime jrpg. Pretty much just sounded like a Tales dub and I'm sure there's plenty of va crossover. Plastic Dolls I guess, but I've never found Monolith to have good character 3D models, but clearly this game was not intersted in being a cinematic as the other ones. Then again, since you can easily ignore characters you don't want to use you can easily have a party of characters that don't annoy. I never found the core cast annoying at all and it dosen't hurt that at the end of the day the story is rather simple.

Maybe at the beginning battles were drawn out, but once I understand how to actually play the game I don't that holds water. Smaller mobs are easy as pie to fight and yes bigger enemies can take a whole, but then again you really should attack specific limbs, manage your parties focus, and either focus on raw damage output or just do the tired and true XB way of toppling enemies. Either way you have many options and I never really found that battles dragged when you were actually playing the game correctly.

Eh takes a while to get to the mechs, but I don't really mind. Combat and exploration was great before you get them.

I think the OST is a lot more fun and listenable to outside of the game. XB's ost was pretty generic jrpg. Good, but nothing unique. XBX's is fantastic, fun, and really out there compared to the safe music that populates most jrpgs.

I liked high level enemies being around. Made the terrain feel tense as you ran around. I also never found it hard to get away from them and besides, death means little on the field.

I guess it's a worse grind fest, but thats up to you. If you want to focus on the main mission. No it doesn't take that much. Yes you have to level characters who you don't even use. Thats super easy. They gain levels so quick by fighting enemies way above them. You don't have to do every mission for the party members unless you want to. Getting the requirements for each main mission probably involves stuff you were already doing anyway. Did I like the linear structure of the first game? Yes, but XBX is really a different and free forum game. It's really about these soldiers and their everyday lives. This translates to this games structure. You really are allowed to go at your own pace and your own direction and I like that.

And I don't see whats wrong with the map implementation. Loved being able to pick any waypoint and fast travel so easy.

Console failed/sucked so hard that Nintendo hired hitmen to give him Cancer like they hired them to hit Gunpei Yokoi over the Virtual Boy. (Putin laugh here?)

XBX:

The non-lyrical stuff isn't bad, otherwise nah.

I'm fine with high level mobs being around when the layout of the world in conjunction with their placement makes any sense whatsoever. Here? It doesn't. Instead of having them mark higher level areas of zones, they are just randomly placed and sneaking around them leads you to...more low level stuff? They mostly feel there to give you a lot of "oh shit" moments rather than as part of the design of the zone. Can't count how many times a low level Affinity Mission made me sneak into a high level area and grab an item / probe / whatever. Leads to a lot of not combat.

I'd be fine with the map on the GamePad if I could also pull it up on the TV.

At least Wii U has some quality exclusives... now the Xbone, that to me is a total waste. Very few exclusives, multiplats perform better on PS4 and/or PC, it's really the definition of a redundant system. I have no idea why one would choose Xbone over PS4 (or PC) unless they really really like Halo and Forza.

I chose it originally for Dead Rising 3 and Forza. I don't play enough games to warrant both consoles and PlayStation doesn't have enough exclusives to make me eat the trade in cost.

Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, and Street Fighter V aren't exclusives.

The only Xbone-only game I'd like to play is Sunset Overdrive, and I'm not gonna buy a console for that.  I used to be big on Halo, years ago, but 343 sucks.  Halo 4 killed the series for me.

Who cares. The individual reasons why somebody wants a console are either so specific or based on a number of factors that it arguing it is pointless. The mass market decides what wins or loses anyway. Not personal preference.

The Dreamcast died a nasty death and it was one of my favorite consoles of all time. I didn't care about a Wii U at all but obviously others did. Arguing whether the mass market took to a product is one thing. Whether something is a waste or not on individual taste in games is a gaf thread.

I don't think the wii u is bad tbh. It Ended up with a good number of exclusives that made it worthwhile. In fact, I enjoyed wii u exclusives more than GC exclusives

Xenoblade chronicles X Mech combat is just awful though. Won't be touching their next game if they bring it back.

So is the voice acting, character design, art style, etc.
Eh not really.

I also don't see how the mech combat is bad since it's just the regular combat of the game, simplified. Yet, a little bit more free form since abilities are tied to weapons and not classes.

The art direction for the world and mechanical design is pretty factually fantastic. The character designs are actually good, it's just Monolith has never been good at making those character designs into 3d models.

How is anything in XBX actually awful?
