Nah it takes 1000 plat coins, but if you link all your social media accounts and get the Nintendo email then you get the required coins.

Everything until Splatoon (plus WarioWare and the 3DS themes) can be redeemed with Platinum Coins.

I guess Miitomo coins ALSO count as Platinum Coins? It's weird.

- You can link your facebook and twitter for the points on Miitomo, then unlink them immediately for an easy 200

- If you have two smart devices, you can do a face-to-face since you dont need to provide an email or anything when registering afaik

- You can get 10 points by going to the My Nintendo site, clicking the block at the bottom, then click your mii (who is now holding a box) 10 times

- Weekly reset is Monday at midnight, and that's an extra 200+ or so from all the logins you have to do again

Someone told me they bought a VC game on a discount (it was a N64 game he got for 2 dollars) and still earned gold coins since the game was originally $10. So probably!
