Played a decent amount of the final game during this free weekend.
I...it's...
I spent half my time re-unlocking characters to use. I still dislike how only one per team is allowed. Two would be nice. Especially when I've only got one fucking character.
The character thing is still kinda...swapping it to a CoD Pick [X] system wouldn't wreck things. I don't want any of this characters guns dammit.
The map with the smoke...ban it.
Also, wtf at no control over the map/mode rotation. I accepted that in the alpha and betas. It doesn't even do a good job of mixing up the modes.
The House is still the pinnacle map and the only one that feels like it knows what it's doing. The airplane would be amazing but too much of it can't be blown apart. Same with the ship. Let me blow out the sides and seats and garbage. The second fancy house is kinda nice layout wise but like other maps is too open with even less to wreck.
Some of the art in the beta version was better, more basic. Lots of out of place textures that clash with the design of the buildings. Also, lol, you can't fool me Ubi, half of those maps are just reskins with different furniture, the layouts aren't much different, if at all.
I actually kinda like the scenarios, though it'd be nice if they were a bit more variable. Though there's a perverse pleasure in doing the plane one a second time and being some kind of action movie star who knows where everyone is and takes them out through walls and shit. Or rolling in smoke nades and as the three guys run out into the hallway you blow the wall.
Still feels like a rough draft though. I think the tagging actually worked better in the earlier versions where the tags remained until another player effectively confirmed the guy was dead/gone. Since the last beta they fade after a period automatically.
Also the team waypoint only lasts for two seconds, nobody sees it lol. Only later did I realize you had to mark bombs with your drone. Or maybe it was just me.
Game runs about the same as it did during some of the betas, mostly dependent on connections. It's yet another game that doesn't know what to do with my old E8400 (though i intended to upgrade to an i7/i5 last month, i've put it off...really should do that before free Windows 10 runs out) and sets everything to low. When my 560 (lol) doesn't even max itself out on the fancy shaders and AA and stuff except on the 1GB memory. So don't be afraid to bump some of the stuff up a bit above what it claims. I couldn't tell a difference performance wise between the 1GB and 2GB texture setting either. The benchmark doesn't report very consistent results on the same settings, a lot like Arkham City/Knight never has.
Wouldn't mind if Valve shamelessly ripped this off for CS2 to show off some Source 2 destruction. Like in CS:S/DoD:S where they put random junk everywhere just so explosions and PHYSICS would send them flying.
Also, teammates, when we're escaping with the hostage, and I'm blowing a path through walls, please don't run off to use the stairs and hallways to get out. Come through the now gaping holes I put through the walls to the outside instead.
The girl who can fire the thing that blows the walls is great for that. Especially since people think you're shooting at them.
9.5/10 - Good
If they add anymore smoke maps: 9.25/10 - Average.
