Seriously my unit has been so loud ever since I bought in 2014 that it drives me crazy. In quiet games I hear it through my headphones even though I'm 3M away :'(

Has anyone ever heard of someone taking this piece of junk apart and putting it in a PC casing with proper cooling?

I'd open it up and clean out the dust. Provided it's not under warranty any more.

360 slim with games installed might be one of the quietest consoles ever. Original 360 was loud, but nothing beats the Dreamcast. Early PS2's also made chainsaw screech noises if you tried to play a CD-format game.

Did you buy it in Denmark? If your consumer laws are similar to ours in Sweden then you might still get it repaired or replaced with the extended warranty covering manufacturing faults.

My PS4 is quite quiet but there are a lot of complaints about high noise levels on NeoGAF. Either there is a large spread in quality or it is sensitive to high room temperatures and/or humidity.

lol my wife three out "the empty amazon enveloppe" with my thermal paste, ive sent her on a mission to get new one but it will be Noctua now

ive taken my ps4 apart and something fell out of the BD drive :/

paste was mega thick on the cpu dunno if thats good

hope it will still work when I put it back together

Unless you've shorted something or broken some solder whatever you've done is most likely easily repairable. Do you have what fell out? What is it doing?

How hard was it to take the ps4 apart? 360's suck ass to take apart due to tabs and slots locking everything together.

isn't the red light indicative of the cooling system messed up or overheating? Open it back up and make sure that the fans are still hooked up properly

Are you sure you didn't get the thermal paste elsewhere if you globbed it on? Some types are electrically conductive I believe so there's a chance of shorts if you're not careful.

it wasnt too hard, but a lot harder than a pc because everything is so crammed

It's quieter than my 360 but it does become audible in some graphic heavy areas in games

Is there an internal fuse on the ps4? I've never opened up a console since my OG Xbox so I'm really not sure. But if there is see if it's blown? My money is on the paste getting on something. I've read lots of threads where the paste can cause issues if it wasn't applied neatly.

Mine gets loud when the BD spins up, but it's still not as loud as my 360 Slim'd DVD drive. And that's still quieter than my OG 360's jet engine drive. Thank the gods for hardware refreshes.

It boots now, but BR drive is kaput (will take it apart I guess) and wireless controller doesn't seem to work?

Downloading update for WoT to see how it will run a game.

is your ps4 visibly fucked up? if not you could try calling Sony and see if they'll replace it for a fee that's less than a new ps4

Also getting PS4 now with the Neo around the corner... or a nice mini itx PC.

My old 360 crapped out at one point, and I junked it, intent on buying my current 360 Slim when visiting the USA. Then, surprisingly, almost every electronics shop in Orlando, FL seemed to offer 360 and PS3 repairs. Here in Osaka I don't see any repairs for consoles, but there are heaps of iPhone repair stores, mainly because Apple's repair prices are asinine.

Anyway, yeah, it's probably worth looking into. If nothing else, you could use your older one as a media streaming device while taking the PS4 NEO into the living room.

Have a small two bedroom where our room is the bed. Very japanese.

I'll look into it a repair.

This morning I floated the idea that I would buy a 1300 euro laptop and my wife said she won't have it as she knows as soon as the new PS4 comes I will want that too cause otherwise I'll feel left out from my buddies

Poor woman knows me so well.

Edit: found a shop, will call em and bring it by, just 25 bucks to check whats wrong but whatever.

You guys don't have Mexicans out there? Mexican flea markets here will repair consoles for like 30 bucks. They do a damn good job too. You guys need more Mexicans.
