Looks fantastic to me.

Even if the movie turns out to be by the numbers I can't help but falling to the Dark Hype Side from this trailer.

Also loving that this film looks like it could've been made during the late 70s if Lucas had a billion dollar budget back then. :lawd

Love it.

And I like that it looks like it will have a different look/tone from the main series.

Hated the rebel line. Besides that, (and this is a weird one) the biggest thing that bugged me was how much makeup it seemed the female protag was wearing. I'm not SJW but since when have rebels had access to makeup or had the time to apply it? Just seemed really weird to me in that one shot of her lol

Besides that, it's Star Wars, of course I'm hyped.

Lead actress looks like Eddie Remayne couldn't give up The Dutch Girl look.

Trailer looks great. Film looks intense.

I didn't need more Death Star again.

This looks really good. One of the hardest things about sci fi prequels is that modern film making is so high tech that it's nigh impossible to replicate the grit or "lived in" look of the previous film. Prometheus was a major offender in this department for instance. Just based on the brief teaser that world looks like the A New Hope world, just in HD.

The trailer itself is a little obnoxious in how generic it's cut, but a lot of the footage looks surprisingly good. The outfitting/sets are also a lot more faithful to the Episode 4 era than I was expecting (as much as is possible for a 2016 film).

Looks like it'll be better than Godzilla (2014) at least.

Looks good to me, I'm way pleased with Disney's handling of the SW property so far. The fact that they keep casting strong female leads, thus resulting in ruffled misogynist feathers is just icing on the cake. I'MA EAT.

I don't care that the Death Star is involved, because when this movie was announced, it was announced as the story of the spies that stole the plans to the OG Death Star.

I don't know who was the Borean that said that he would be mad if Donnie Yen was just there to wave a stick for two scenes. That would indeed be a pity but that's already what happened in Blade 2 (and Highlander Endgame, god I forgot about that :lol) so I prefer to expect a repeat of that, unfortunately.

I dunno who Donnie Yen is ?

Famous HK martial arts film star, seen in the Ip Man franchise, arguably the biggest one in the current industry after many years of having to take a seat to Jackie Chan & Jet Li (He started in film in the mid-80). He's not as charismatic as they are and I'm not up to date to with his recent career (I found Sha Po Lang and Flashpoint to be terribly shit and pretty light on the action, so I'm not going to suffer through any Wilson Yip movie ever again) but there's a number of great classics from the 80-90 with great scenes even though he was rarely the main man.

If you like HK flicks I would recommend Iron Monkey and also Dragon Inn (the 92 version) or Once upon a time in China 2 (he's the antagonist in the last two) for the ones in costumes. Yen was also the star of Tiger Cage 1 & 2 and In the line of duty 4 which are competent, action packed, 80's HK crime movies (fairly jank & low brow).

Not feeling it.

Don't care how the rebels got the first Death Star plans. Not worth making a whole movie for; feels too gimmicky and forced nostalgia like TFA. Not interested in a movie with another Death Star in any case. Main character looks dull and cliché.

And that alarm sound... :snoop

They're not perfect but I can't let you throw FP and SPL under the bus when they gave us these:

Yeah sorry, I can see one would find some of the fights enticing... all 1.5 of them  :-\ . I find the films super cheap on that front (The trailer for Flashpoint had pretty much all the action money shots) and the fights are not anything too special either if you've seen your faire share of HK classics. I also found the stories or maybe rather the tone of the narration insultingly bad, adding offence to injury. Super bland plots with an air of moral self importance that is really jarring.

Flashpoint was by a miniscule margin more tolerable to me as it sometimes gets so absurdly bad you can at least have a good laugh.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's a whole remote activated bomb in a roasted chicken sequence that I found hilarious.
[close]

That's why I'm mentioning In the line of duty 4 over that : the film is super jank, borderline xenophobic ("Evil US gweilo CIA spooks, including some grunting black man, fucking up HK") but there's like half a dozen fights & crazy stunts in that.

So when I heard they were making a movie called "Rogue One", I assumed, stupidly it seems, that it would heavily involve X-Wings. I didn't see a single starfighter in that whole goddamn trailer.

There's a crashed X-wing in the background of the Donnie Yen scene.

And I do agree, when they first revealed the title, I was all "fuck yeah!  Rogue Squadron movie all over my face!"  And then when they described what it actually was, I was disappointed.

But I'm back to hype.  The concept here actually seems as close as we'll get to the Wraith Squadron books, which I really liked.

Seems like a neat idea. Trailer doesn't really do anything for me but the one for the last movie didn't either and I enjoyed it more than I expected. I am definitely already preemptively fatigued by how much star wars shit is coming though, I give it til episode 8 comes out until I probably am as sick of SW as I am of most marvel nonsense

No John Williams? It's ...not really a Star Wars film then. :gloomy I guess that just further cements its status as a side film but still, come on Disney, it's not like you are lacking in cash and this won't clean up at the box office or anything. Maybe the schedule they are churning these out at prevents JW from doing them all.

I'm down after being lukewarm on TFA. This looks like it'll have more of an identity and rely less on exploiting the collective pop culture nostalgia of a few generations

That beach shot is hot, hoping there's some kind of scifi PG-13 Saving Private Ryan D-Day scene (basically Live. Die. Repeat.). I want this offshoot and the next in the trilogy to deviate more from your typical Star Wars trappings. I get that as the first in a trilogy type reboot, TFA had to reestablish what Star Wars is while also updating it for a new movie going audience. Still it'd suck if the next two mainline films were again basically reimaginings of the original trilogy. Guess the nostalgia cues didn't do much for me cuz I only recently watched the originals. They were still fresh in my mind so TFA felt forced :doge
