I dedicate this to the GOAT goon, Bob. Everyone needs a guy on the squad who got your back no matter what.

Bob>every non-Joker character in the Nolan films

No philosophy, no serious Batman voice. Just a man in a mask fighting a clown and his loyal goon Bob. And Vicky Vale>every chick in Nolan Batman

This is the kind of opinion that should first be tested with an alt account.  That way people don't remember you said this a decade later.

It has a sense of fun and not taking itself too seriously. The characters in 89 Batman seem more like real people rather than random plot devices let loose in a city. Michael Keaton has a more upbeat and goofy presence compared to Bale's suave and cold presence, I enjoy the former a lot more than the latter. The cast itself and performances, even for minor characters, makes Gotham feel lived in, lively, dangerous. The cast in Nolan movies and their performances are all cold and sterile.

Nolan's Batman movies present themselves as being more grounded and real, if you tried to put the comics and the material in our world. While the Burton Batman movies are a mix of the comics and Burton crafting a world around those comics.

Nolan made perfectly reasonable but boring Batman movies. Burton made goofy as fuck and fun Batman movies.
OH!

Because Burton at least tried to grasp the character of Batman, unlike that hack Nolan.

89 had Kim Basinger and Michael Keaton, Begins had Christian Bale and Katie Holmes.  This isn't really something we need to discuss.

You can put Youtubes in the poll options. :ohhh

What I don't get is why Nolan ever bothered with Batman. He's too damn serious to make comic shit work. It makes no sense. Burton at least actually likes dark fantasy worlds, like the Batman universe.

Nolan's films are cool to see the 'what if Batman was really real' Batman but other than that... meh

He was forced into it to make Inception, he had to do Batman.

WB wouldn't have bankrolled it otherwise. Just thank whatever deity you worship that Nolan Bat's isn't a part of the ass-tastic DC Cinematic Universe WB/DC are going for now.

Batman Begins is nearly completely forgettable. Even the beginning, which many people seem to love, isn't noteworthy to me.

The Dark Knight was dope but you quickly realize there are a lot of parts that just suck in hindsight. The boat stuff, Two Face v Gordon, etc...ugh. The Joker is amazing though.

TDKR has no redeeming qualities.

It's because of the changing demographics of comic book movie viewers.

In 1989, it was kids and pre-teens

In 2005-2012, it was manchildren in their 20s and 30s who confuse grimdark with depth

It hasn't aged as badly as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves but...

wtf is this offensive bullshit

Billy Dee Williams was Harvey Dent, not the mayor.

And he took the role because he wanted to play Two Face.

Thankfully, they dumped him and Marlon Wayans (and WB paid them both off) to get white guys back in those roles for Batman Forever saving the film and franchise.

Keaton* and Kilmer do change their voice to be more gravely and such while Batman vs. when Bruce Wayne btw. It's not just the over-the-top growl that Bale grows into.

Bale's isn't that absurd insane in most of Begins either. (Best part is all the times in the three movies that Bale uses his Batman voice in private conversations with people who already know he's Bruce Wayne.)

Clooney doesn't, which I assume is a homage to Adam West.

“I’m kind of a logic freak,” he said. “I don’t know how to do anything unless I have a logic to it. It can be the silliest, stupidest, broadest thing, but I have to work from somewhere.”

Keaton encountered a serious logic problem during his first scene shooting as the Caped Crusader, in which he confronts a criminal in a dark alley.

“There’s no way this guy doesn’t just look at me and say, ’That’s Bruce Wayne, everybody! I figured it out!'” he said with a laugh. “’It’s obviously you! You’re four feet away from me!'”

Burton and Keaton explored a few different ways to preserve Batman’s identity in the scene, from the way he was positioned, to the use of contact lenses. Ultimately, the only thing that made sense to Keaton is if Batman used a different voice than the famous Gotham City playboy.

“I had to do something,” he said. “I had to drop down a register. Then I learned, later, that it became a thing [for future ’Batman’ movies].”

There's a different cut of Forever that's "darker" where Two-Face is less of a goofball and starts off the movie having murdered a bunch of people to escape Arkham. Even Carrey's Riddler is slightly different and a bit less wacky as it shows more of his planning out things. WB or whoever didn't even let Schumaker put all the cut scenes on the various DVDs. IIRC, there's zero alternate takes or deleted scenes of Carrey and only a handful of Jones'. A bunch of Kilmer/Kidman/O'Donnell though.

Part of the whole plot was supposed to be Bruce coming to doubt his war and confronting his potentially being as messed up as the villains. There's like two seconds of it in the movie, and Kidman's role as a psychologist.

The "Forever" titling is even supposed to relate to Bruce's realization about his role as Batman. It's just meaningless with most of that plot excised for more Carrey hijinks. :lol

All of the above.

It has a sense of fun and not taking itself too seriously.
This right here is my biggest problem with a lot modern superhero movies. Get that pretentious shit out my face, trying to make me take seriously a bunch of autists running around in spandex costumes doling out betamax vigilante justice and trite pseudo-badass one-liners. Shoehorning corny grimdark fantasizing into comic book universes will never work for me, sorry. Deadpool and The Avengers are corny in their own rights but so much more self-aware and thus more platable than shit like Nolan Batman.

Nolan Batman being dark is fine, but the whole "grimdark comics stories for adults!!" angle has been beaten so far into the ground at this point. And with Snyder still in the wheelhouse at WB, that's probably not going to change for quite a while.

This is where I'm I'm at.  I don't like Nolan's batman's but Begins was at least coherent, and The Dark Knight had like 1 really good hour in it.  TDKR is actually a really bad movie.

Don't really get why you can't like all of them, even if you still have favorites. Just like with the comics, each has a different focus and approach that makes them unique and interesting.

Adam West Batman: Goofy, zany 60's fun
Burton Batman: Cartoony Gothic world full of twisted people
Batman TAS: Gothic world with villains that had actual depth
Nolan Batman: Serious-minded drama in a dark vision of the world

Eh? Only WB is doing that. Marvel is generally running with their comedy. WB/DC is attempting to grimdark all their properties and ONLY Batman (IMO) is the one that works for that because that's the whole Batman gimmick. Shadows and fear.

It's funnier cause Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face was so pointless.

Funniest thing is that when meeting Jim Carrey on set, Jones said to Carrey's face "I hate you. I really don't like you…I cannot sanction your buffoonery."...and then out jamboned Carrey to within an inch of his life.
