So the Ni-Oh alpha demo has been up on PSN (JP store only?) this week and is up until May 5th I think. I gave it a try because of the good word of mouth and expected Janky Dark Souls wannabe...
But wtf, it's actually legit good, if not great even at this stage. The game is exactly Dark Souls/Bloodborne, but it's the first game that's ripped it off so well to date. It captures the really satisfying rpg system of everything gets exponentially easier as you level and get new equipment. At first a single enemy is tough, but an hour or two later you're wrecking groups.
The combat feels better than Dark Souls and maybe even bloodborne. Good sword combat, parries, stances, spears, axes, etc...lotta of customization options and the loot drops are good. Like it makes it more sense that a heavy armored guy is not only going to be tougher but drop his armor. Oh and another reason the combat is legit here is the enemies all have the same stamina bar as the player so they tire out after a few attacks or if you make the, guard and knock their stamina down and then they can't attack either. Feels fair and that makes it exciting.
Also has a 30/60fps toggle with 1080/720. 60fps at 720 looks like a PS3 game but feels nice so it's all good.
Honestly didn't think modern Team Ninja had it in them to make a quality video game at this point (I know DoA5 is supposed to be good, but they already Had an already made fighting game in DoA 1-4 to just expand on). Will pick this up when it releases.
