Also, I don't get people that think Japan is some kind of giant anime mecca, and filled with futuristic shit and whatnot. The whole country is not one small area of Tokyo.
Exactly. Aside from posters in the windows of Lawsons, neighborhood arcades and capsule toy machines, I saw very little in the way of gaming and anime outside of Akihabara. I also saw the majority of American tourists in Akihabara.
I cannot imagine spending days upon days in Akihabara. Hell, I had my fill after three hours. Coming back on the ferry from our "Honeymoon Suite Night" on Miyajima Island, I overheard a group of American guys talking about how they had no interest in seeing any of the historical landmarks in and around Tokyo, but needed "at least three days for Akihabara." Way to waste your time in a country full of extremely friendly people and amazing history.
