Japanese voices don't fix shitty writing though, and its guaranteed that the subtitles are just a mirror of the english voice acting 

This is early PS2 amateur hour. I'm playing through FFIX right now, which is considered to have a great localization, and so far its been excellent. FF XV is looking just as bad if not worse than FF XIII in the writing category. The game is supposed to come out in a few months, that lip syncing is beyond fucked.

Who besides Walrus (who is always wrong in regards to Final Fantasy) hates Alexander O. Smith's translations? The only translation that was bad was All You Need Is Kill, and that's partially due on the author more than Alexander O. Smith.

I guess it wouldn't be "by who" because they aren't asking about someone who's not among them and he was trying to be tough while asking who the guy in front of him is. That was probably the reasoning anyway.

Regardless it sounds like a JRPG and not even that bad. In general ithe game's writing has never seemed to be beyond the teen anime it looks like. Which is a shame, but is what it is. Regardless the fun of a JRPG comes from the plots which are dumb but possibly entertaining. The jury is still out on that, but the cast dose t seem annoying so there's a positive.

Still I don't think the dub sounds bad at all.
