Is there a fleshed out single player campaign? It looks fun, but I rarely have enough time to learn new multiplayer games.

Thanks!

I don't know if this is my thing. It looks like a hybrid between Dynasty Warriors and Dark Souls.

ONLYSP: If you were to have gone with a more historical setting for the game, what would that have been like?

VandenBerghe: It really wasn’t ever something we wanted to do with this game. The core question of For Honor was “what if Knights, Vikings, and Samurai all met on the field of battle?”
Well at least they're honest  :lol

The animation is nice, the characters have a sense of weight.  Although those can sometimes be a detriment when it comes to responsiveness.

I mean, on paper this game is up my alley but I'd need to wait for reviews.    Early next year is packed with big releases.

There is a closed alpha of the game currently going on all the platforms.

It's pretty good. Surprisingly so imo. I'm not really a beat em up guy so some of you guys will have far more informed opinions about it after playing but I personally think its fun. It's unique. And it definitely has a bit of a skill gap to it.

I'd put it more as Dark Souls combat-ish with Chivalry's gameplay. I'm not too much of a fun of this, TBH, though.

Like I said I'm not really a person who normally plays beat em ups or fighting games so I can't really make deep meaningful comparisons. For me it felt unique. Not quite like anything I've played although of course it has elements of traditional fighting games like combo chains and such.

Basically at its core you can attack top, left, or right. And a person defending has to defend top, left or right. You have a light and heavy attack. So you can generally see what the person attacking is going to do but you have to time it correctly and hold your directional stick to block the direction of the attack and then get your offense going or keep defending as the case may be. There are more mechanics in it than that like hitting a button to break a person's blocking guard to open them up for attacks and such but at its stripped down core that's the system. So for me it feels like a 3d fighting game but not one that I can easily compare to other 3d fighting games as it doesn't really feel like the ones I've played.

The tutorial video for each character kind of explains decently how the system works.

I just dont seem to get it with all the directional blocking and stamina management

Directional blocking is why I primarily play archers in Mount & Blade, so I wonder how this game will feel with me.

There is mo ranged class here, but one of the skills I saw is calling in a archer strike.

I only lost one match in 2/3 hours and i got a lot of kills assisting teammates in a fight but 1 vs 1 I got creamed a lot, still had a good k/d ratio

another annoying thing is that you can just run away from a fight and with no ranged skill you cant kill a runner really so you end up chasing them around the map or something

switching target also seems cumbersome with having to release the lock button quickly then tap and hold, instead of having the usual system

game still has potential and is oddly addicting, maybe due to the hard to master combat

The game definitely takes a good while to good use to. My main complaints would be that I think the match making uses peer to peer instead of dedicated servers. The connection issues in all the betas and alphas has just been embarrassing and should be a large issue of concern. I also agree that its too easy to just up and run from combat. The sprint system should be something where you can sprint for a little but if you do it too much your characters just exhausts himself and slows to a crawl.

This looks really dope. Too bad there's no single player.

There is a single player as in a campaign although from most press accounts its basically just a tutorial for the mp.

Pretty great for a AAA Chivalry clone. They did a good job of making directional blocking approachable but still highly skill-based. I'll definitely grab this on sale at some point.
