Original Post:

Expect two overpriced Pixel phones, an overpriced 4K Chromecast, release details for Google Home (Amazon Echo ripoff), a series of mesh routers (like Eero), and the first Android Daydream headset (official version of Samsung Gear VR.)

Also "Andromeda" aka the merger of Android and Chrome OS, and maybe a 9" Huawei tablet.

Just started and opened with a Silicon Valley parody with Gilfoyle and Dinesh.

Really bummed about the direction their phone stuff is going. I love my Nexus 6P but these devices look uninspired and boring.

Loved pretty much everything I saw about the camera. 89 by DXOmark is fantastic, and the claim of fastest shutter speed is great. I already pay for storage so the unlimited stuff doesn't entice me too much but it's good to know it won't be burning up my storage going forward.

That $649 entry price though... 😰

Google Wi-Fi (aka Eero.) Will this supplant OnHub or work with it?

Gonna wait on speed comparisons. Very happy with my current ASUS RT-N66U.

$69 seems like too much for a Chromecast IMO, although this one does support built-in Ethernet.

4K, HDR, and Dolby Vision are supported too (as per the leaks.)

Google Home is some hot shit. Glad I held off on an Echo, getting this shit day one.

It even recognized "Play that Shakira song from Zootopia" and played it correctly. Get fucked, Alexa.

Seems like a decent, albeit uninspired presentation, from Apple Google.

Yeah, leaks really killed this whole thing lol. Literally nothing announced so far hasn't been leaked, except for how Google Wi-Fi looks and its pricing.

I'm interested in learning more about the wifi. Even though my current router already has AC, it lacks on it's reporting.

That headset looks like garbage. I have no interest in slapping an Expo whiteboard eraser to my fucking face.

:comeon

It looks way more comfy than some plastic crap. Can't believe people are harping on this.

It's still crazy to me that my Nexus 5X takes better photos and waaayyyy better video than my first DSLR with the kit lens (circa 2011.) Ca-razy.

I like the phone, but I'm never gonna pay that much. I'm also annoyed that they put one out in more or less my favorite color (blue) but the front is white, which I hate in electronics. As my friend put it- "I'm going to buy the shit out of this in a year when it's discounted right before they announce the next model."

Andrex, the thing about the Daydream is that while fabric is an original idea, it's a bad idea. Finger oils will build up. Oils will catch dirt. That thing is destined to look grubby and nasty in its first year, and no amount of Febreeze is going to take care of that.

Yeah, I'm even thinking about picking one up at the generational change.

To be honest, none of that hardware makes me want to buy it.

Phones don't really try to do new shit anymore and VR (especially phone VR) is pretty damn useless with nothing in the horizon that makes me want to upgrade from the free Google cardboard thing I have. And besides that I see wifi overkill for regular users and a touchscreen boombox. I guess the chromecast is okay but it just had a spec update. I don't think I'm going to get a 4k/hdr TV in the next year though.

Personally I think using a regular amoled/lcd screen in VR is going to be a dead-end and we'll eventually adopt it when a different, lighter display technology comes in the next few years. Between weight, battery life, and the screendoor effect it just feels like a drag using VR.

I disagree. It's not gonna be quilt material, I have to imagine it's more like denim. Despite wearing jeans way more often than this headset, and despite your ass sweat, you still don't need to wash them every week or month, do you?

Lightweight and breathable material for something like this isn't just original, it's a good idea.

Andrex, just to be clear: I like these cheap VR solutions and am not joking about picking this up at some point.

I also agree that I don't wash my jeans after each wearing. Probably after three or four intermittent days worn, I'll wash them. But I do eventually wash them, and I don't think the Daydream is washable.

There's no electronics in the headset so I don't see why you couldn't scrub the outside if you needed to. *shrug*

Google has done an admirable job removing many of the barriers that have plagued VR before. To the point that the View doesn’t just feel well designed, it feels considerate. Daydream View is much lighter than Samsung’s headset, and it’s much smaller too. There isn’t any plug you have to jam your phone onto, or special framing you have to set it in. You just drop the phone in and the headset, and it pairs automatically via NFC. The effect is instant and smooth. It’s a welcome relief from the bugs that sometimes pop up with Gear VR.

I really want Dead Secret to come to it but I expect Samsung paid for it to be exclusive to the Gear VR (mobile-wise.) :'(

The Harry Potter game tickles my fancy.
