Who else is excited for this shit?

I really liked the concept of the first game, even if some of the execution was hit or miss.

Look at this though:

I am so excited for Dishonored 2. The original was probably my favorite game from 2012 and I've been pining for a sequel ever since.

They're making quite a few changes I like

- Expanded powers
- Different powers for each character on top of that
- More nuanced chaos system, if you kill a bad person, you net less chaos compared to killing a good one
- You can refuse the outsider during the beginning and finish the game with no powers at all

I hope they kept the dark non-lethal options

Some of those were straight :holeup in retrospect

Yup, same.  Series looks great, just haven't found the time.  Same with Deus Ex HR and the sequel.

Those definitely made the non-lethal playstyle more interesting, that's for sure.

I'm as excited as I can be these days, which is not release day excited. I will devour this game eventually though, same as the first one.

I think Deus Ex isn't for me, so I'm crossing that series off my list.  I have Dishonored installed but still have yet to boot it up.  :-[

My venerable old Phenom II can't run it anyway, because it needs SSE4.2 and Phenom II CPUs can't do that. It has the grunt, but not the smarts. :'(

They might recompile the executable without it, but now that I have to wait, I might as well wait for a 'complete' edition.

Playing the game on hard and the AI can see me a mile away and I can only take 2-3 hits. Love it.

Put the cap on Dishonored 2 the other day, took right about 20 hours [I played fairly slow and hunted around for lots of secret stuff]. I really like the diversity of the locations and the art style, a bit improvement over the original game and even the DLC campaign. Some of the new powers were pretty cool, too, like Emily's domino ability [chain together several enemies and then dispose of them all with one attack]. Transforming into a shadow for more stealthy movement was fun, though its ability to traverse rat holes was a bit underutilized. Emily's blink ability worked more of less the same way as Corvo's, but the way it allowed you to pick up items and even enemies was a nice touch. Most of the rest of the game was pretty similar to the original, though I loved the original so that's not really a bad thing.

Like the expanded options for non-lethal/low chaos playthroughs.

Doing mission 5 on hard and I had to get past a rooftop area with three guards, 2 of which were facing away from the door I had to go through. I chained them and put a stun mine in front of the doorway. I hit the staircase rail near me with my sword, triggering them to investigate and I hid behind that. As they made their way through, they got stunned. The third guard rushed trying to investigate and I hit him with a bottle of Howler powder I've been carrying with me since the start of the level, temporarily debilitating him and allowing me to easily knock him out.

Also in mission 4:

I had to kill Jindosh since I can't deal with 2 Clockwork Soldiers at once on hard as they can take shit ton of punishment and kill me quick. I didn't have Shadow Walk either. What I did was climb the elevator shaft to his office, use Emily's doppelganger power to lure away the clockwork soldiers while prompting Jindosh to investigate. As they were all running towards the doppelganger, I popped Jindosh with an incendiary bolt and got the hell out of there.

You can actually lure the clockwork soldiers out of the room. That's what I ended up doing. The best thing to do is lure them across the movable walkway and then raise it up once their on the other side. Then you're free to take your time with Jindosh.

Finished mission 7. Really, really good level design.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I thought the first two time travel puzzles I did were mandatory (safe room and dog incineration), but those could have been circumvented completely by taking a different path through the manor. Draining the water was neat too. Watching videos seeing how other players tackled the level really makes me appreciate it all the more. Also, I hear it gets interesting if you kill Stilton in the past, don't want to spoil myself on it tho. Might try it in a future playthrough.

Just beat it. P. good. Really great in fact, liked it way more than 1 since they kept things interesting in a much better way as the game went on.

Also it took me a little over 24 hours to beat. I'm slow as fuck, but also the last 4 or so missions accounted for almost 16 of those hours.

Picked this up on the Steam sale.

I'm about 3 hours in, and at the 3rd mission. So far it's not doing much to impress me honestly. The levels have been painfully straight forward. It's annoying how easily enemies are able to see you from distance as well. I dunno feels like a slog so far. It seems like the game does a super bad job at indicating if i'm going into a hostile area or not. One mission I enter an area with NPCs then the next I enter an area and am immediately accosted by enemies. It's super confusing.

Does the beginning just drag? I know the Clockwork mission is supposed to be pretty great but I just couldn't drag myself through the part to get to the actual level.

edit: And also - literally nothing happening is interesting. None of the characters are interesting. Everything has been gray and bland. I mean if there's good stuff latter in this game they really did a poor job at putting their best foot forward.

I keep having thoughts...

The first game goes out of it's way to show you how many different avenues are available to you. It really felt like a big sandbox. Even in the very first few levels. The first parts of 2 have felt so constricting to me.

It's actually bugging me because I can't decide if I just am missing something.

I got a free rental of it from Red Box and didn't even bother to finish the first level. It felt like a slog and there was a bugged trophy. I hear there are a couple of amazing levels but eh.

The last 5 or so missions are way better than the first couple the game throws at you.

The issue I had with the first game was the fact that the first couple of levels ended up being the best. The first 3 in this one are a lot simpler and straightforward design wise for sure though.

I really tried to get into this but man, at nearly every turn I kept bumping into the limitations of the game and had to put it down. I had to at least try to get to the Clockwork Mansion because I heard nothing but good things about it. I finally get there, see the gimmick and after another hour I stopped playing feeling fairly unimpressed. Yeah, the walls move around... ok.

So I dunno. I'm over three hours in and pretty much found nothing fun about it. I don't think I can suffer through anymore in hopes of finding the fun.

Hmm...was going to buy this from the Steam sale (or just on PS4- it's like $25 on Amazon right now), but maybe not?  Doesn't sound like it's worth playing.

The best thing about the game for me was its artistic design. Marvelous. Playing stealthily was more enjoyable than not since the powers make you pretty much unstoppable (which depending on how creative one wants to get can either be a great thing or remove all interesting tension). Didn't finish the first game so glad this one checked the right boxes.

StealthGamerBR's high chaos runs are remarkable though. His Clockwork Mansion run is a whirlwind of gameplay mechanics overlapping in such creative and unexpected ways.

I don't want to necessarily skew the general consensus if most people are enjoying it. I rather liked the first game but everything about the second is falling flat to me so far.

Second game is superior than the first. Mechanically more dense with better level design.

Story and narrative stumbled a bit in the sequel. First game has a more focused plot.

Knife of Dunwall/Brigmore Witches is probably still my favorite of the franchise [and I think it had the best story, too], which is why I'm super-excited about the new stand-alone expansion. But I liked D2 better than D1, felt like the levels were better designed and more diverse/interesting. Story's kinda whatever, but plot wasn't what I liked most about D1, either.

OK, so is it "safe" to get this on PC or should I go for the PS4 version?

And I should probably play the original first, which I still have yet to do.  :-[

PC version is pretty great, wish performance could be better though.

If you've got the specs, definitely best way to the play game.
