I always mentally pronounce "yoy" in my head instead of breaking it down into its component words. I do the same with "bogo."

I think it's just cause they sound fun, like they could plausibly be Australian exclamations or something.

Yoy (or joj) is a Yugoslavian exclamation that's very close in pronunciation. The o is elongated, and almost always drawn out for effect. Used to underline pretty much any kind of strong reaction. When something is in the process of going wrong or was salvaged, it turns into oyoyoy. When someone's calling your name and you want to signal that you've heard, you can respond with oy.
