Next time, listen to me

Any wisdom people would like to seek now? I'm open to teaching.

Would you like to think about post-irony a bit now that a presidential campaign based on trolling won?

Nah, it was Oscar or someone who had a breakdown on Gamergate. Looks like there was 10+ more pages of that thread after I left.

I left the thread because I saw too many hateful sociapaths doing their thing in that thread and I didn't want to be associated with the forum anymore.

The sociopathy was also the point of the Nintendo thread. Beware of those that are seeking to attack, hurt or dehumanize others, but do so by selectively picking their targets. They seek out those they feel others won't defend and then bully them. Normal healthy people don't lash out like that. They have no need or desire to do so.

You can probably roll that back into the media and Trump. Dehumanizing and namecalling people in poor situations with racist! and sexist! didn't really work out as an election strategy.

I didn't vote. Thought about voting Johnson and trying to repeal the Death Penalty in Cali, but I have a hard time believing my vote matters much. I'm more effective speaking to people and changing votes. Hell, being in Cali my vote didn't matter much since it was going to be Hillary's state either way. The only thing that gives me pause to my perspective is the stuff like propositions. California is incredibly whack when it comes to voting on policy. No real logic to what they vote in besides a large helping of virtue signaling.

I think is not going to be better with Trump, may become worse... but still was going to be bad with her if the Hillary bubble is any indication. Self reflection tend to be better when you dont act as bad as the people you mock, btw.

I don't know what to expect with Trump. He has to lean on others, but his own party hates him.

All the left had to do was behave, be honest and act in a manner that actually resembled their heightened view of themselves, and they would have easily won.

But they couldn't do that, so they have four years to figure that out and nominate someone who doesn't disgust the public.

Both disgust the public, one less than the other (and the other one was more qualificated than the other IMO) but I doubt is going to get better until people understand the people that refused to back either.

Of course both disgust the public. I think one of the more bewildering things that happened was a lot of people who openly loathed Hillary and the Clintons' legacy for months suddenly acting like a vote for her was pro-people or pro-black or pro-lgbt. One side has to stop being a hypocrite. A troll can only succeed via the outlandish level of response to themselves.

As for refusing to understand those that wouldn't back either: the deeper, more worrisome trend is a loss of faith or interest in democracy itself. Brexit is the same deal*. Trump said some un-democratic things, but people mostly did not take him seriously. At the same time, the DNC is making their own primaries partial, telling the press what to say and generally forcing a candidate upon people.  And when they get caught, they rather openly and brazenly don't care. They appoint the guilty to positions in the Clinton campaign. Brazen blowhard pussy grabbin douche v Brazen Entitlement.

But that's not all of it. Now you have people protesting the results of a democratic election. You have people wondering if the uneducated should be allowed to have their vote count the same. And the SJW left is all ready for socialism/communism despite not really experiencing it. (I always recommend they talk to an eastern euro immigrant about that whole thing.) You have the same people who mocked Trump's answer to accepting the result of the election and questioning rigging the election.... now suggesting the election was rigged.

There is at once little faith in democracy and a fiery backlash from democracy. Trump shows signs of being a tyrant, but he is an outsider tyrant put up against someone who has been in power and feels entitled to power and who sees the democratic process as a formality. So the people made their voice heard by voting against the power, even if the subject of that vote was somewhat the other side of the coin. Brexit people began to question if they had a democracy if things are being decided by un-elected officials in Brussels. So they voted leave.

And, of course, the alt-right attracted the nRX, who feel democracy has failed.

And the only way to "heal" or fix things is for people to talk to each other. Unfortunately, we're on social media and social media algorithms produce echo chambers.

Same. Stuff like ACA has a real impact on people's lives. If you pull that out and don't replace it or don't just fix it then it will lead to severe problems. Planned Parenthood funding is another thing. (I don't think marriage equality is under any threat.)

I guess the question is whether this was the only way to jolt those fucking up into introspection? Did everyone have to get red-pilled? As much as I understood all that was going on, I still expected Hillary to win and then a slow class backlash to keep going.

No. Though those are effective to some. Not in that they get effective results, but they get people to buy in. I imagine there's a lot of the same tricks in those as in motivational speakers.

I remember your posts in the GG thread. Don't complain about a lack of kindness when you were willing to pile on people.

I think you saw my tolerance of certain bad behaviors towards me and thought I would be cool. It's not that I lack kindness, I just have to have some self-preservation. You can only wait so long on others before you're hurting yourself. One of my mistakes when I was here previously was the very kindness you thought you'd get. I was told by someone to realize that thebore is all fucked up and to stop trying. I took that advice.

So this isn't about my smug enjoyment. I'm seeing if, after the shit has hit the fan, if anyone is up for listening to someone who isn't shocked by the events. Are you going to have a real talk or am I repeating the same mistake?

You know, I should go back and re-read what I said there... but it's unlikely that I've changed my mind.

The biggest thing I see about Trump's election and Gamergate and Sad Puppies/Rabid Puppies overlaping is that a bunch of threatened man-babies don't want to be told that they must accept that their neighbors can be two men who love each other, two women who love each other, someone who was born a different gender than they prefer, someone who is a non-white color that they don't like -- and they really, really hate that they're told their opinion doesn't matter.

Yesterday's election, in a way, proved that they are right. They proved that they are willing to elect a piece of ambulatory feces to our highest office. This is like selecting a brain surgeon because he's shown up for work in a leather jacket and knew some good towel-head jokes.

The liberals have been in an echo chamber, it's true. We've been unable to hear what the Midwest and South have been saying for years. The urbanites are a bunch of self-involved, arrogant, overly intellectual navel gazers who have been apathetic to the pleas of those in rural areas who don't like seeing their small town way of life disintegrate. It's too bad so much of what has got them excited about Trump and shaking up the system is based on empty promises and other lies. It's too bad they perceive their freedom to be tied so tightly to denying others their own freedom.

So, I don't know, can we have a civil discussion? There are very few people here I bear ill-will toward. You've not been one until now. But, again, you've been gone and if you've only come back for the I-told-you-so, I've got nothing but rage for you right now.

Except that Gamergate and Sad Puppies (Rabid is different, its pure alt right) is not what you just described. GG is heavily liberal. They have no issues with those things. They support gay marriage. They support alternate lifestyles. Polling of the GG forums like KiA revealed mostly Bernie voters and Libertarians. So you're misinformed, which you always had been. You believe they have issues with those things because some media told you that, but that's the same sort of media they accused of collusion (which turned out true), which told you that Hillary would win easily (False) and also tells you that the Trump thing was just a bunch of dumb racists.

The incestuous relationship between the DNC and media that wikileaks revealed  is eerily similar to what Gamergate was concerned about. It's close to what Sad Puppies complained about, and got proven right by the scifi world's response to them. Granted, games media isn't a big deal. However, if more people had understood GG then I believe we wouldn't have Trump right now. Like I said, all the left had to do was behave. They didn't

People like you think they can demean certain people as long as they paint them as single white males in their head. The fucked-up bigotry of that is one thing, but I just need you to understand that is going on inside of you. You've been tainted by identity politics. The media exploits outrage and it often uses identity politics to do this. I care about this because ignorance like yours does lead to things like President Trump. He ran on trolling. Post-irony. Nobody had learned what that was about when they needed to over two years ago. It appealed to white people not because they hate others. It appealed because they had been shat on. It appealed because they knew the press was not honest. The press literally underestimated their very existence.

The wikileaks mattered, the emails mattered, the way the DNC ran things mattered and the suspect way the press went about it mattered to people like GG mattered to nerds. You just thought it was okay to hate GG because they're nerds. Put in idiom: Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. You stop demeaning and dismissing people and this whole mess can be fixed.

You keep on fucking that chicken like you have and I don't believe you or anyone else who claims to care about the impact this has on others at all, because you'd rather choose pride than admit your fuck-up and fix things so it doesn't repeat.

Thank you for clarifying your stance.

You're right that the DNC fucked us. You're right that the press is culpable giving Trump coverage because of its absurdity, and ignoring Bernie despite his tenure and service in exactly the role that made him an interesting alternative to HRC. You're right that the urbanites have been dismissive of a disenfranchised rural group, and the media is inherently urban.

But you're also wrong; I'm just not sure how badly wrong you are. Sure, there's a difference between Sad and Rabid Puppies, and you may have read up on or participated in GG, and are more aware of some of its intricacies, but to me that's like knowing how many rings the rattlesnake has on its rattle. I don't care enough to investigate, and that's on me, but I also generally try not to decorate my days with hatred. All I can see from my safe distance are a bunch of rabid, shrill, hate-filled obsessives determining that they should doxx and make death threats against women game industry professionals because: reasons.

You're disingenuous. You claim you wanted to come back and see if you could have a rational discussion. You did it by starting a separate politics thread with an inflammatory title for attention -- and then becoming indignant and agitated when no-one seemed to be thrilled about it. You're agitated that I paint people with a broad brush, and then use "people like you." You don't want a conversation, you want an apology for things you're still wrong about.

People were mean to you before. They're going to continue to be mean to you now because you're being belligerent, and you'll feel justified that your important message failed but that you tried, so go ahead and stay smug.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

"I don't actually know anything" so don't call people monsters? "Not going to decorate my days with hatred" That's exactly what you do when you act like these people are monsters. "they doxx attack wimins" No, that's BS, and you repeat the BS because you are fine with spewing hatred at these people without knowing anything.

I don't have to assume anything about "you people" because you people is the forum. It's based on what you have said. As in, it comes from interacting with you. Your opinion on these groups is based on no interaction or knowledge. It's based on second hand word of mouth from sociopaths and dishonest media.

I'm not here to gloat. I'm here to see, as I stated, if you're sobered up by the election and ready to learn anything or is everyone still a bunch of mental, petty shit piles.

Just because I don't say it nicely doesn't mean I'm upset or disingenuous. I just learned the last time not to waste energy flowering it up.

If you don't want to swallow pride then fine. That shows your true colors. Don't anyone say they worry about their minority friends and then refuse to realize what happened to cause this. It's empty, nutless virtue signaling.

Try some introspection.

GG drama is still half understood here, but GG is still a cesspool regardless as the election cycle proved and not extacly bastions of liberals.

Dude, I may not know your story in this forum and I understand why you are frustrated by the GG drama but... look at places like KiA during the election, Brexit or when the European inmigrant crisis went hot early in the year... a shitshow

I enjoy occasionally clicking on this thread and then scrolling past etiolate's posts without ever reading any of them. I'm ashamed to admit I did read the first post though, and worse I read the entire thing which was total overkill, I could have at least stopped after the first line.

Nothing about any those times that makes it a cesspool. You know that's wrong. It has always had a group of people with the basic liberal principles. Even the Trump supporters are pro-gay and personal freedoms. I don't really know what you're talking about here. KiA gets dumb and e-drama obsessed, but that tends to pass over.

Every demographic survey of that place reveals that its mostly liberal or libertarian.
