Algarna, a really terrible sidescrolling action RPG for the X68000 that features the Ys 'bump' system. But the soundtrack is done by some guy you may have heard of... Yuzo Koshiro.

Yup, game has an awesome soundtrack. Hitoshi Sakimoto (FF Tactics, FF12, Radiant Silvergun) worked on it too.

It is striking how most games he's contributed to are shit and/or forgotten. I wonder if he was just unlucky or somehow contributed to this.

I'm not lying though  :letsfukk

I don't consider average as meaning bad or flawed to the point of being bad, more of a "eh" response based on my tastes. Everything I listed I enjoyed a lot more due to their soundtracks. I can listen to Chrono Trigger's outside of gameplay and that alone makes me want to play the game, only to be sorta bored by all the mechanics and story bits.

Same with Persona 4.

Same with FFX.

When it comes to JRPG mechanics as a whole, modern, old, whatever, nothing can salvage that genre.

there's a game genie code to instantly win all battles in chrono trigger (which thankfully doesn't have random battles in the first place)

i'm not saying i used this to get the other 14 endings back in the day, but theoretically someone could to cut the game time by more than two-thirds, even more with proper save management and save states :hitler

though i also liked the story because it's one of the few games, really any kind of media, that handles a complex time travel story well enough that it ties off most all of the subplots and actually makes sense when you run through any single plot line...i have to imagine they wrote it (and Cross) like that crazy futurama episode where they used a chart to keep track of the body switching

of course i did :jawalrus

lets make the shittiest superhero game possible, but give it triple AAA production values. "Great idea!" Said a guy to another guy, perhaps once.

IIRC, the animations in that didn't exactly scream AAA production values. :lol

Though it did have a whole bunch of pre-rendered cutscenes that weren't too bad.

the voice acting was excellent, full orchestral score, pretty good (for the time) CGI cutscenes and lots of em', also renting out the Batman license. Yeah, I'm sticking to that claim.

I've never since played a game that obviously cost so much money and was so friggin utterly terrible to play.

Nail on the head with BioSHIT TURDfinite.

That game was so shitty, it diminished its lineage for me.

Oh, it very much was! So was GTA IV, another shit game.

System Shock 2 was a tough game, a groundbreaking game, a game with choices. BioShock was a good game with slightly fewer choices, and engaging story, and tremendous atmosphere. Infinite was a game which dumbed down its predecessors' formula so far as to become pointless.
