If he's going down that path, I would think a mandatory gun buyback with a hefty tax penalization for not forfeiting ownership would probably get the best results and cause less violent turmoil than sending cops after everyone. Also, I only associate O'Rourke with focusing on restricting automatic weapons like AR-15s. Is Beto really in favor of taking handguns and hunting rifles?

I've now read some of Beto's arguments. He's counting on SCOTUS to classify assault rifles specifically (not all guns) as dangerous and unusual, which they probably won't since there's so many out there, but that's really W's fault for not renewing the 94 ban.

IMO assault weapons have no legitimate use in the United States, and should be banned. This common sense from 25 years ago somehow escapes us today. I'm sure it has nothing to do with NRA bribing GOP officials, though.
