There's a guy on Lou Dobbs sometimes who has an entire wall that's one long bookshelf. And he always places his book in a prominent position so it can be seen/the title visible over his shoulder. I choose to pretend that his latest book is always displayed like this and it's not something he started doing since having to telecommute to cable TV from his home.

I always love when someone interviews a lawyer on TV.  they frame it in a way that the lawyer grabs some legal code from his bookshelf, reads it for two seconds and then begins to answer :dead

WASHINGTON — Rep. Karen Bass, who is on the shortlist of Joe Biden running mates, was a keynote speaker at two socialist events in Los Angeles in the 1980s and ’90s, The Post can reveal.

The revelation comes as the powerful chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus faces increased scrutiny over controversial past remarks praising Communist leaders and for her links to the Cuban regime.

In a recent NBC News interview, the five-term congresswoman and veep hopeful denied she was a Communist and pledged her allegiance to the Democratic Party — but unearthed newspaper clips show the California lawmaker has a long history of speaking at socialist events.

Bass was a featured speaker at the 1993 West Coast Socialist Scholars Conference at the University of California, where the theme was “socialism and empowerment,” according to an article about the event.

Sponsored by the Democratic Socialists of America, the annual Socialist Scholars Conference ran from 1983 until 2004, when it was rebranded as the Left Forum.

Bass was also a speaker at a 1988 forum sponsored by the Democratic Socialists of America on the city’s scourge of gang violence.

Described as a “community activist” and “organizer,” the congresswoman was slated to offer “an alternative analysis to the ‘siege’ mentality of the LAPD and media,” an ad read.

A spokesperson for Bass did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

With the August 18th primary election in Florida less than two weeks away, Republican congressional candidate Laura Loomer has scored the endorsements of veteran political consultant and former advisor to President Donald Trump, Roger Stone, and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R).

The show of support for Loomer came during the annual Palm Beach Republican Party’s “Lobsterfest” fundraising gala held at the Trump International Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida.

In true Stone form, the former Trump adviser used choice words to describe his feelings for Loomer and her candidacy in Florida’s 21st District against Democrat Rep. Lois Frankel.

Stone says he has reviewed the recent internal pollings of the race, concluding that Loomer “can win that seat.”

“She has bigger balls than most of the men,” stated Stone” You need her in Washington fighting for you. We need her in Washington to join the band of rebels because she is courageous. She is knowledgable. She is fearless.”

Rep. Gaetz, who is arguably the closest ally to President Trump in the  U.S. Congress stated:

“And when we find folks who they try to disappear or silence because they chose to speak out, we need to have their back! And that’s why I’m proud to endorse Laura Loomer for Congress.

Free college laborers; have you considered the risk of not sustaining a traumatic brain injury?

Some players were tweeting the hashtag #wewanttoplay last night and a bunch of conservative sports yellers (who have always thought players need to shut up and be totally subordinate to their coaches) suddenly got very very interested in "listening to the players and what they want."

Then a few hours later those same players announced that they wanted to form a union.

Been trying to game out how this would go down if we were in a parliamentary system cause I've got nothing better to do. An even more pointless exercise than it seems because it probably keeps Trump out of leadership in the first place, there's no midterms or split government, etc.

We do have a couple mechanisms for kicking the bum out but those require a party bucking its leader, same as a vote of no confidence would.

Entertainment mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, radio personality and “The Breakfast Club” co-host Lenard “Charlamagne Tha God” McKelvey, former NFL defensive end Michael Bennett, civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump and many others signed the open letter to Biden.

“As someone who has said throughout the campaign that VP Joe Biden needs to choose a Black woman VP, the urgency for that pick has gone from something that SHOULD happen to something that HAS to happen,” the letter said.

The letter denounced the treatment of some of Biden’s potential picks, including Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., over her perceived ambition and her debate attacks on Biden’s civil rights record when she was a rival candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.

“It disgusts us that Black women are not just being vetted in this VP process but unfairly criticized and scrutinized,” the letter said. “Was Joe Biden ever labeled ‘too ambitious’ because he ran for president three times? ... Why does Senator Kamala Harris have to show remorse for questioning Biden's previous stance on integrated busing during a Democratic primary debate?”

Among the names on the letter are entertainer Nick Cannon, Bishop William J. Barber and CNN political contributor Van Jones. No nationally prominent Black political figures were listed as signers.

“Failing to select a Black woman in 2020 means you will lose the election,” it said. “We don’t want to choose between the lesser of two evils, and we don’t want to vote the devil we know versus the devil we don’t because we are tired of voting for devils — period.”

Joe Biden’s advisers are planning an announcement for the middle of the week as his search concludes, people briefed on the selection process said.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) says that she will be “highly supportive” of whoever Biden picks to be his running mate, and he has a large pool of impressive contenders to choose from.

During an interview on CNN on Monday, Klobuchar was asked her previous comments on Biden’s vice presidential search process, where she shared her belief that Biden should choose a woman of color to be his running mate.

CNN’s Poppy Harlow noted that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) recently met with Biden, and asked, “What do you think, senator, an all-white ticket would say about the Democratic Party right now?”

“You know, Poppy, Joe Biden is going to pick the best person for that job. And there are so many incredibly qualified women — including the governor of Michigan — they are all qualified,” Klobuchar responded.

She continued, “What I was trying to capture here was that this is a historic moment. It’s a historic moment because what’s been going on in our country — not just with George Floyd out of my state — but also with how we’ve seen so many African Americans, immigrant workers that have been hit so hard by this pandemic in outrageous numbers.”

“I can tell you, I think whoever he picks with the group he’s got, I will be highly supportive,” she added.

President Trump is considering new immigration regulations that would allow border officials to temporarily block American citizens and legal permanent residents from returning to the United States from abroad if authorities believe they may be infected with the coronavirus.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Under the proposal, which relies on existing legal authorities of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the government could block a citizen or legal resident from crossing the border into the United States if an official “reasonably believes that the individual either may have been exposed to or is infected with the communicable disease.”

The draft, parts of which were obtained by The Times, explicitly says that any order blocking citizens and legal permanent residents must “include appropriate protections to ensure that no Constitutional rights are infringed.” And it says that citizens and legal residents cannot be blocked as an entire class of people.

The rule notes the prevalence of the coronavirus in Mexico as evidence of the need for the modified rule, citing the death on August 2 of the health minister in the Mexican border state of Chihuahua, who the order says died of Covid-19 after a two week hospitalization.

The Trump administration is ordering schools operated by the Bureau of Indian Education to reopen for in-person instruction “to the maximum extent possible” on Sept. 16, according to an internal memo obtained by The New York Times.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The memo says that while families may choose to keep their students home and rely on virtual instruction, teachers are expected to teach in person unless they are at high risk for health complications should they contract the coronavirus.
