So whats the current consensus on Justice Democrats? The Ocasio win has given me butterflies but I'm only into all this for the drama, legalized drugs and Ana Kasparam dragging people. I dont trust my political knowledge and opinions, I'm a weathervane in this regard.

sad, just like with Hillary's final days:

Could you 'repoop' the question please.  :doge

I'd put my money on the new 28 year old hot Democrats to get shit done rather than fossils like Pelosi and Clinton.
However, Die Partei will probably decide that young ideological socialists are unelectable and select MIKE BLOOMBERG as their front runner with Warren as his bitch to appease the socialists.

Which will blow up in their faces.  :rejoice

Or Mike, ego centric narcissist ass (not much unlike Trump) can't do a hostile 'take-over' of the Democrat party and decides to run as an independent against an actual progressive ticket.
Splitting the vote and giving Trump the edge. Democrats need to figure that shit out ASAP.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) has addressed a series of recent death threats she said she has received, telling would-be threateners to "shoot straight" during an immigration rally on Saturday.

“I know that there are those who are talking about censuring me, talking about kicking me out of Congress, talking about shooting me, talking about hanging me,” Waters told the crowd in Los Angeles.

“All I have to say is this, if you shoot me you better shoot straight, there’s nothing like a wounded animal,” she added to cheers.

curly what do you think of alexandria ocasio-cortez' election?

It's exciting to have someone that's to the left of Bernie win an election and get so much national attention for it. I sort of agree with Nate Silver that the media is putting too much significance on this one event when the general trend has been overwhelmingly in favor of Dem incumbents, but life is not a statistical model and narrative does matter somewhat. See: the DSA's jump in membership and the rush of Dem politicians endorsing Abolish ICE.

There's also the possibility Biden wins the nomination in 2020 on Bill Clinton's platform because the worst thing possible always comes true.

On the socialism question...it's funny to see how the different positions on the political spectrum have interpreted Ocasio Cortez ideologically. Liberals say she's basically a New Dealer and there's no serious discord in the party so put away your Tea Party comparisons, please. Conservatives are fine with calling her a socialist but it's not like they've ever been discriminating with that label. The far left, as far as they exist, call her a dirty social democrat (r/latestagecapitalism has banned displays of support for her). Personally I like her but I do wish she would directly criticize capitalism more often.

On another note, looks like North Korea may not be the good faith negotiator we were all so convinced they were.

Turns out a vague one page document that doesn't formalize any commitment might of been because North Korea had no interest in seeking the aims America has for it over promises they've disregarded from us before and just wanted the optical victory of projecting themselves to be a legitimized nuclear power. So they have been steadily chipping away at making more nuclear weapons fuel and plotting to find ways to hide their arsenal.

That one thing that they might do next is wait for a reactionary Trump to tweet out how he will re-instate the drills he unilaterally promised to end and North Korea will spin that as justification to ramp up their own behavior further. Something they totally have not done before in other ways with most past administrations.

One funny thing about Ocasio-Cortez is that New York primaries are basically designed to have low turnout, with different dates to vote for federal vs. state offices. That's usually seen as helping incumbents and establishment candidates, who can rely on a machine to turn out votes, but it seems to have bitten them in the ass this time.

They are exclusionary. Systems designed to drive down turnout are still bad even if they help your preferred candidate once in a while.

Yup. "Reform" efforts are typically geared towards getting certain results though, like Bernie people aiming at closed primaries but not caucuses, or any number of tweaks the GOP made to avoid a Trump style candidate getting the nomination (oops).

A draft bill that Trump ordered to blow up the current trade regime. Basically the one thing that will actually get Republicans in Congress to act against him.

Also, the bill's called the "United States Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Act," so it's the US FART Act. Good job all around.

In fact, Crowley — Irish-American and from Queens — was presumed to do better there than Ocasio-Cortez, who — Puerto Rican and from the Bronx — was expected to carry her home borough. But Romalewski mapped out the votes across the district, and what he found was the exact opposite of the pundits’ conclusion: Crowley, known until last week as the king of Queens, was crushed almost everywhere, but he did better in the Bronx.

“You can also see that most of her votes, the strongest vote support came from areas like Astoria in Queens and Sunnyside in Queens and parts of Jackson Heights that, number one, were not predominantly Hispanic, so they’re a more mixed population, and are areas where — this is kind of a term of art — are in the process of being gentrified, where newer people are moving in,” said Romalewski.

But one waitress has a bad memory of working with Ocasio-Cortez, 28, as Ocasio-Cortez tended bar during the very busy Cinco de Mayo celebration in 2017.

At the end of the night, when it came time to split the $560 in tips she had gotten at the bar, Ocasio-Cortez gave the waitress only $50. After the waitress complained to her manager, her take was doubled to $100, a source said.

“It says so much about her character,” said my source. “From that point on, I wouldn’t talk to her. I couldn’t look at her.”
Wow, another Bernie-Boogie.

Quote
Perhaps the most relevant variable in Ocasio-Cortez’s electoral success is that the drop-off voters didn’t just vote, they got involved. Starting with the base of voters identified by Justice Democrats, an innovative data operation put that army to work. In a tactic developed with field directors from other Justice Democrats campaigns, Chakrabarti said they used voter files to find local residents on social media, and then targeted them with digital ads. Having made a potential voter aware of the campaign, they would then follow up by sending a canvasser to knock on the voter’s door. The combination of the digital ad and the door-knock added up to more than the sum of its parts.

“From day one, these volunteers started knocking doors and reaching into their own networks to expand this volunteer army, allowing us to go into election day with over a thousand volunteers willing to mobilize voters,” Chakrabarti said. “We buttressed door knocking with a heavy digital, phone calling and texting strategy that targeted progressive voters
wow, they basically almost literally copied Bernie-Trump-Putin's election theft tactics that Hillary's campaign refused to stoop to using in places like Michigan, Wisconsin, etc.

all while Bernie angerly refused to even set foot in a march against Trump's policies unless they were only involving white males and has constantly voted against full-fledged complete comprehensive bipartisan total administrative holistic comprehensive immigration reform

and he's not even part of the party, yet they let him dictate what their rules on superdelegates can be? when he's out there allying with Sarah Huckabee Sanders on everything?

With the Republicans in control of the Presidency, Congress and Supreme Court and the Bernie-Boogie-Bots now in control of the "Democratic" Party, this truly is a dictatorship.

Wouldn't be surprised if Bernie crosses the rubicon and crowns himself Emperor at this point.

In neighborhoods where there were fewer new people to help carry the message, Crowley’s traditional support held strong, even among black and brown residents.

In fact, the data suggest that although Ocasio-Cortez won in almost every neighborhood, she actually did worse in some parts of Queens with large non-white populations. For instance, Crowley performed very well in East Elmhurst — which has a substantial Latino population and is majority-minority.  Romalewski also pointed to Lefrak City and surrounding neighborhoods, “which are predominantly black as well as Asian and Hispanic,” as areas where Crowley did particularly well. Zooming in a bit more, you can see that African American neighborhoods were a strong base for Crowley.

One canvasser told The Intercept that on Tuesday evening, he ran into a working class Hispanic woman who had already cast her ballot. He shared some literature anyway, and after scanning it, she told him that if she’d known Ocasio-Cortez were running, she’d have voted for her. Longtime working-class residents living in gentrifying neighborhoods would have been more likely to see Ocasio-Cortez signs or run into volunteers. And once exposed, the same platform that attracted the former Sanders supporters seems to have appealed to them, too.

Although the economic resources possessed by gentrifiers often exacerbate the financial pressures felt by longterm residents, after the global financial crisis and a Great Recession, crushing student debt and soaring rent means that many of these downwardly mobile new residents of Queens and the Bronx have political interests that align closely with longtime residents.

Ocasio-Cortez benefited from heavy turnout in parts of Queens with relatively smaller Latino populations.
once again, The Revolution™ is for whites only, unsurprising, what with Bernie pulling the strings from the shadows

On Sunday's AM Joy, MSNBC contributor and Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin declared that Sarah Huckabee Sanders deserves a "life sentence" of being harassed publicly as she asserted that the White House press secretary "has no right to live a life of no fuss, no muss" because of her negative interactions with the press.

...

Later in the show, after claiming that Sanders's criticism of the press amounts to an "incitement to violence," claiming that journalists' "lives are on the line," Rubin recommended that a million protesters should mobilize to intimidate Sanders as well as Senators Collins and Murkowski. Rubin: "I don't think what's most effective is throwing Sarah Huckabee Sanders out of a restaurant. I wouldn't serve her either, frankly, but what's most successful is getting a million people on the street to protest."

Quote
Let's get a million people to go to Maine or a million people to go to Alaska and start putting pressure on those Senators. So it's perfectly civil to do that -- no one is telling them to be violent protesters, but we're not going to let these people go through life unscathed. Sarah Huckabee has no right to live a life of no fuss, no muss, after lying to the press -- after inciting against the press. These people should be made uncomfortable, and I think that's a life sentence frankly.
rather more importantly, has the FBI found those time traveling Russian hackers of Joy's blog yet?

I’m curious about how this bill would get challenged legally if enacted.

I’m pretty sure that the WTO is a self-enforcing treaty and thus has the force of domestic law. This law would either directly violate or at least theoretically allow the President to directly violate it. Does that mean that every time the President raises tariffs in a way not in accordance with the WTO, somebody could sue and say they violate the WTO?

I’m actually sort of surprised nobody has taken that tact with the current tariffs.

Gary Heavin (born c. 1955) is an American businessman from Texas. He is the founder and Chairman of the fitness chain Curves International.

Heavin dropped out of college at age 20 and took over a failing fitness center in Houston, Texas. Along with his brother David, he built the business into a chain of 14 locations. He was a millionaire by age 25 but then lost it all by age 30; he filed for bankruptcy.

After his first marriage, Heavin was sentenced to jail for failure to pay child support. While in jail he rededicated his life to Christian values, and he has been outspoken about his support of pro-life causes.

In 2004 Heavin was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He is also the author of several books, including Curves: Permanent Results Without Permanent Dieting and Curves On the Go.

Heavin and his second wife Diane opened their first Curves center in 1992 in Harlingen, Texas.

Curves is now based in Waco, Texas; it once had over 10,000 locations and is no longer the largest fitness chain in the world. However, since selling Curves to North Castle Partners, a private equity company, Curves franchises have closed at an alarming rate. North America is now the home of approximately 600 Curves franchises. Since the takeover by NCP more than 75% of the Curves franchises have closed.

...

Gary and Diane Heavin have recently began to produce "movies that make a difference." Mission Air is a Christian movie that has been available since 2013. Amerigeddon is an action adventure film that opened in 30 theaters on May 13, 2016.

Gary was a guest on The Ron Paul Liberty Report on April 4, 2018, and has referred to himself as a "right-to-life" libertarian and is for a non-interventionist foreign policy.

You know that rumor about Trump having an illegitimate child.

I think it's Hope Hicks. The rumor was from late 80s, she was born then, and the way Trump seems to trust her, it's basically like Ivanka.
That would be so weird. Especially because according to official Trump lore Ivanka was the one who introduced Hope to Trump.
