also surprised how many of these red states voted for medicaid expansion.

Shit doesn't really make sense.
https://www.nationaljournal.com/s/74221/return-middle-american-radical

a lot of voters in middle/flyover America care way more about retaining programs that directly effect them/that they feel entitled to than any ‘tightening the belt’ rhetoric about public expenditure their party tries to sell them. It’s not an inconsistency in ideology, they actually want health care. so in order to poison health care expansion, you need to sell it to them as either coming out of their wallets, or inherently broken, or a black mans idea.

The current Republican coalition skews so old that they can't really go after Medicare or Social Security like they're normally inclined to do (they always exempt people who are 50 and over from these changes in their white papers but that never seems to matter).

We all have a good chuckle at "keep the government out of my Medicare!" but that's a pretty popular sentiment. Most people don't think of these things ideologically, but are protective of their own benefits that they feel they've earned, and suspicious of spending money on other people who might be slackers and parasites.

so much going forward depends on when the next recession hits and how bad it is

anyway I'm going to try to not think about politics for awhile, it's just too depressing

With a Dem House next year will be better than this one. Honestly, I think Americans (writ large) actually prefer gridlock to either party having complete control.

Shit doesn't really make sense.

One thing the poli-sci nerds got right back in the day was that once the ACA was implemented, people would gradually start to take its benefits for granted and associate those less with Obama.

Not just the Medicaid expansion, but the attempt to roll back pre-existing conditions coverage, which blew up in the GOP's face so badly you had candidates just flat-out lying about their position.

I guess it's just weird to me that one the one hand they want these benefits but also want to elect people that openly want to get rid of them.

Like they actively support Liberal policies, just not liberal politicans. It's like Max dumbassery.

I understand the reasoning that gets them there, but it's still stupid

Hypothetically he'd be open to passing compromise bills cause he doesn't give a shit about or understand policy, but he craves applause which he gets from being an asshole.

Also he takes shit way too personally and is way to corrupt to react to any sort of investigation calmly. Worst case scenario he refuses to comply with some subpoenas and gives us a constitutional crisis, best case he just loses his shit on Twitter every day and keeps telling Pelosi he'll help with an infrastructure bill if she calls off the dogs.

so much going forward depends on when the next recession hits and how bad it is

It'll be as soon as a Dem takes office and you won't BELIEVE how quickly people start giving a fuck about the deficit again.

Will trump retaliate by attacking the new congressmen and women more readily? Is it a possibility he will name and shame his opponents as they stop Republican efforts in the House?

Last night I argued with some conservatives in a gun discord. They said that unemployment didn’t rise during Obama. I know all too well how they’ll react to the deficit under a democratic president. But how will they handle the damage control during the election season?

arizona is another good argument for running farther to the left. you don't end up losing the most extreme parts of your base to the fuckin party of jill stein and lose the whole state when those voters were enough to make you win

Conservatives are propping up black voters as an asset due to an increase in voters.

Today the black vote for Republicans was up 6% from 2016. DeSantis and Rick Scott won 14-15% of the black vote.

Conservatives of course are using this as a rally cry to say that trouble is brewing for democrats despite having a great night.

I’ve been reading conservative reactions on reddit. Unfortunately so far the reactions to the night are tempered:

Quote
I’m pumped for Nancy as speaker. She’s going to fuck the shit out of her own party

Quote
Watching Pelosi right now on Fox News just confirms that it'll be a GOP landslide in 2020.

Quote
As Brett Kavanaugh once said, try to look at the sunny side of the mountain. We will have a solid Senate majority, and can confirm as many judges as we want. The sunny side of this mountain is way more important.

Won’t get any juicy stuff until tomorrow probably.

There is this article on daily wire though that has an unflattering photo of Nancy Pelosi on it.

https://www.dailywire.com/news/38045/here-come-crazies-nancy-pelosi-speaker-maxine-joseph-curl?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_content=062316-news&utm_campaign=benshapiro&fbclid=IwAR0toFea3thdsqXUBBGwtny_mgw7Y4j9H9K9d0fCUCSdTbHALvLXgG_QM6s

I find it humorous conservatives find Nancy Pelosi to be so, so crazy but give passes to Trump and his gaggle of misfits.

fwiw exit polls are not super reliable for these breakdowns, and in a few months we'll probably start seeing precinct-level analyses that will give a better idea of the racial breakdowns. Can't really do that with gender cause we don't segregate neighborhoods on that basis.

Best news of the new night for me, and I’m going to bed.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/florida-voters-appear-to-restore-voting-rights-for-felons-amid-bevy-of-ballot-measures-nationwide/2018/11/06/03766f04-dfa8-11e8-b3f0-62607289efee_story.html?utm_term=.3c4dbc8dfe52

Maybe you all are right about going full progressive vs moderate. Moderate republicans lost big and those who embraced Trumpism won huge. This shows that maybe the center just doesn’t apply whether it’s democrat or republican and moderates like Lamb are exceptions. I guess I’m letting my own personal interests impact the way I feel and I’m willing to admit I’m wrong about it. I have a hard time trusting progressives at this point. Something I should work I guess.

Patrick Morrisey lost for Senate in WV. He was full Trump and lost in WV against LUBRUL DEMACRAT MAN-CHIN. He was by no means moderate. I'm not trying to say this to prove you wrong or anything. I'm just thankful.

At the same time it appears the state has approved new constitutional language on abortion. That's unfortunate. It was a very confusing ballot proposal, so it's no wonder it was so close.

Stacey Adams won her primary which was obvious. She will lose the race though. This factors into what TVC and I were talking about earlier. Her words:

I guess this raises a philosophical quandry:

Do you go 100 and wear your heart on your sleeve to cater to your base to appear authentic orrrrr do  you maybe reduce it a bit and play to moderates? What's the better strategy? Is it better to lose as a progressive than win as a moderate?
A (black woman) democrat loses in fucking Georgia and you take it as a sign Dems need to moderate? A pretty idealogically diverse group of democrats won all over the country yesterday, including Connor Lamb. You know, the guy who lost a close special election a few months ago after which you also made the "Dems in disarray/too liberal" argument.

The only liberal argument that lost last night was Sanders' view that big government liberalism can win everywhere. It ain't winning in the south.

Yo, (lady)boys just chiming in to say a few things....

1) Trump acts like my teenager almost exactly....stupid faces, pretend grudges, Twitter bullshit etc. For every 1 step he has taken forward (jobs, economy, etc) he takes 4 fucking leaps backwards (convefe, nah nah no you're the one being investigated, etc) ....he needs a spanking.

2) Absolutely nobody is nervous of a mobilized left wing. Nobody. Stop it.

3) Ladyboys don't need any power. Sorry. You cant even figure yourselves out, stop trying to figure anybody else out.

4) Pelosi is a fucking moron, kudos to dems for costing themselves four years of potential progress by installing a fuckwit. Well played.

5) Beto sucks, stop it.

Bonus (off topic):

Why in reset era when a gentlemen asked women about "cold approaches" did a bunch of fuckwit nerd shut in cheeseburgers with 20000 posts a month decide they would take the wheel? Lol, Billy, nobody is hitting in you at the grocery store, they are actually telling their children to avoid you.

I'd say the last like 5 pages sum up how crazy Cindi really is. Never seen such rapid oscillation between happiness and fear and fear of happiness and happiness of fear and fearful happiness and happy fear.

Post 1. Dems are doing so well, we're gonna win it all god bless America.
Post 2. (2 minutes later) Fucking dems are distinguished mentally-challenged ran such a shitty campaign they deserve to lose.
Post 3. (2 minutes later) WE'RE TAKING THIS SHIT GET FUCKED REPUBS
Post 4. (2 minutes later) Fucking liberals are the worst

:huh

Oops, it seems I didn’t add you to the ignore list after all.

I don’t see why it’s hard to understand.

I personally campaigned for Beto. However, I’ve been saying for weeks he’s going to lose. I was very pleased by the early vote returns, but more than that, shocked it was that close. I was expecting a Cruz landslide given his numbers in the primary versus Beto’s considering he out performed Beto like, 3 to 1. So when I saw the early numbers I was definitely happy about it. Is it wrong to be happy? But also still believe deep down that the race isn’t over? Or that Beto lost by only a few thousand votes and could have gotten away with this if he hadn’t talked about gun bans in fucking Texas?

Not according to Stro!

And this is why you suck. It’s never discussion. It’s just,”Cindi is crazy.”

Please go eat lead, sir.
