Threatening to withhold federal funds is a pretty popular way of implementing de facto national policies that the federal government isn't allowed to do directly (I think that's how we got 21 as the drinking age), and Feinstein talks about it like it's a sure thing it the states would comply to get the money.

But we have a decade of evidence, via the ACA Medicaid expansion, that GOP governors are more than willing to turn down federal dollars for ideological reasons. That's before we got to how Ducey, DeSantis, Kemp etc. have acted regarding the virus. It'd be an absolute cluster.

Speaking of The Party:
Quote
When U.S. Rep. Justin Amash ended his exploratory bid for the presidency, Libertarian activists held out hope he would run for re-election to his seat in the U.S. House, where he is the first and only Libertarian to serve in Congress.

It seems they are about to be disappointed.

A top Amash aide reiterated this week that the West Michigan congressman idled his congressional campaign back in February. She also indicated Amash does not intend to seek the party's nomination at the Michigan Libertarian Party's convention in Gaylord this weekend.

"He hasn't been campaigning for any office and doesn't plan to seek the nomination for any office," Amash adviser Poppy Nelson said by email.

Amash himself confirmed he isn't seeking re-election to his House seat in a tweet Thursday night.

"I love representing our community in Congress. I always will. This is my choice, but I’m still going to miss it," he wrote.

"Thank you for your trust."

wondered about this:
Republican officials throughout the country are reacting with growing alarm to President Donald Trump's attacks on mail-in ballots, saying his unsubstantiated claims of mass voting fraud are already corroding the views of GOP voters, who may ultimately choose not to vote at all if they can't make it to the polls come November.

Behind the scenes, top Republicans are urging senior Trump campaign officials to press the President to change his messaging and embrace mail-in voting, warning that the party could lose the battle for control of Congress and the White House if he doesn't change his tune, according to multiple GOP sources. Trump officials, sources said, are fully aware of the concerns.

The impact could be detrimental to the GOP up and down the ticket, according to a bevy of Republican election officials, field operatives, pollsters and lawmakers who are watching the matter closely. Every vote will count in critical battleground states, they argue, fearful that deterring GOP voters from choosing a convenient option to cast their ballots could ultimately sway the outcome of races that are decided by a couple of percentage points.

And with the coronavirus pandemic potentially bound to get worse in the fall, voting by mail is becoming an increasingly popular option since many voters may prefer not to wait in long lines at polling stations. That will leave Democrats with a major advantage if their voters send their ballots by mail while Republican voters forgo that option simply because they are listening to the concerns of the President.

In Wisconsin, a state that was central to Trump's narrow 2016 victory, Republicans were "begging our voters" to vote absentee when the pandemic first hit, said Rohn Bishop, Republican Party chairman in Fond du Lac County, where Trump will need to drive up GOP turnout in November.

"Then the President has some tweets and gets upset with mail-in balloting and we dropped the issue like a hot potato, and that's where I think we're making a mistake," Bishop said. "Our voters are running away from it. That kind of terrifies me."
Quote
Glen Bolger, a top Republican pollster, told CNN he had just surveyed a battleground state and found that three-quarters of voters who plan to vote by mail or absentee vote intend to support former Vice President Joe Biden; just 15% of mail-in voters in that survey planned to use the mail option to vote for Trump.

The CEO of Goya Foods praised Trump at a White House circus event and then Trump haters said they would boycott Goya, which triggered the Trumpists to stan Goya beans in the middle of a pandemic to own the libs.

Imagine coming across this deserted set piece in Bioshock.

You see two trucks, cranes and all that weight.
You think: "Is this a puzzle, a trap, perhaps a sign?"

Never would you figure out that it was just there to proof a point about the burdens of regulation.

President Donald Trump's reelection campaign is conducting an internal review of spending irregularities overseen by Brad Parscale, its recently demoted 2020 campaign manager, Insider has learned.

Jeff DeWit, an accountant and former chief financial officer of NASA who recently joined the Trump 2020 effort as its chief operating officer, confirmed in an interview Friday that he was reviewing all campaign contracts and examining all spending.

While DeWit said the review wasn't specifically focused on Parscale, other Republicans familiar with the effort said it inherently homes in on the top Trump aide because he controlled all campaign spending, from polling and advertising to voter surveys, during a tenure that started in January 2017.

"We want an effective and efficient organization, and we're certainly not targeting anybody," DeWit told Insider. "We don't like to see a single dollar fly out of the campaign without knowing where it's going."

Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner hired DeWit at the end of June to review the campaign's operations, and DeWit immediately began scrutinizing the campaign's spending and arrangements with vendors.

"He brought in DeWit because Trump was so sick of hearing how much money Parscale was making," one Republican familiar with the arrangement said.
Quote
Trump's anger at Parscale has been building since last year after he learned his campaign manager was living a lavish lifestyle built off riches he'd made working for the president. Trump has made offhand references to Parscale as the "$10 million man" — something viewed as derisive but also accepting of Parscale.

"There are two things you cannot do with Trump: take credit for his accomplishments and steal from him," a friend of the president said.
Quote
During that first White House campaign, Trump tasked DeWit and Allen Weisselberg, his longtime personal account and namesake company's chief financial officer, with reviewing spending by ousted campaign chiefs Corey Lewandowski and Paul Manafort. When Steve Bannon came on the Trump campaign, Kushner withheld control of the budget from him, according to a former aide on the 2016 campaign.

The mayor of Portland (and the governor's office) should reassert its local authority and oust uninvited paramilitary organizations. If the police are uncooperative then Portland should disband its police force and start training popular militias for the defense of democracy, which are protected by the 2nd amendment. Since municipalities are uniquely positioned to obtain military equipment it is paramount that they utilize this advantage.

Yes but because the elected officials are democrats instead they will write a letter and tweet a photo of said letter
:O
