......I came into this thread to ask a question and there's a nonchalant racist old lady with a black dick puppet on her face as a protest.

Anyways, there was speculation a few days ago that Trump might be strategic and try to wait until after election to submit his SC nominee but now it looks like he's going full speed. I think I heard something about possibly impeaching him (again) to cause an artificial pause on the confirmation process. Is that actually an option if the Dems in the House decide to do it?

Seems like the best choice available.

From what I've read the Dems could impeach him but then the Senate could just dispose of the impeachment without a trial if they deem it not serious.

I don't think there are any laws governing the actual impeachment process other than the Constitution so it vaguely falls into the "whatever Mitch wants to do" category.

I don't think there's anything that requires the Senate to take up anything the House sends it on their terms, so the Senate could simply schedule the impeachment after a confirmation hearing/vote.

Though Mandark's suggestion of dismissing it would be simpler, I'd personally rather any impeachment of a President for carrying out one of his constitutional duties proceeds to a vote. Especially since the "problem" isn't Trump nominating anyone, it's the Senate voting on them or not.

The House would have better luck sending a resolution asking the Senate to kick out Mitch McConnell (and Ted Cruz) instead.

Possible way this SCOTUS thing plays out: small number of GOP senators don't agree to a vote before the election, including Collins and Gardner who are up for reelection. They lose and then as lame duck senators switch over and vote to fill the seat.

Looks like it's just going to be Collins and Murkowski. Everyone else is supporting this. Barring some fuck up (scandal) the nominee will be confirmed.

I know a lot of people are going to point fingers and blame Bernie bros for 2016 but at the end of the day...RBG is the one who scoffed at retiring during Obama's second term, and she's the one who wanted a woman president to pick her replacement. I always found the "Notorious RBG" memes and shit to be asinine given the stakes involved. People watched her deteriorate physically and instead of pushing her to bow out, they cheered. Should have retired in 2013 or 2014...

Cindy McCain, the widow of Senator John McCain of Arizona, formally endorsed Joseph R. Biden Jr. for president on Tuesday, praising the “character and integrity” of her late husband’s longtime friend and colleague while voicing her unease with President Trump.

Ms. McCain, who spoke in a video at the Democratic convention last month, said in a telephone interview that she had been uncertain about how public a role she would play in this year’s campaign. But after reading reports this month that described Mr. Trump denigrating members of the military, she said, she became “more and more frustrated” with the president.

“The most important thing that moved me a great deal was talking about troops’ being ‘losers,’” Ms. McCain said, referring to an article in The Atlantic. “You know we have children in the military, as did the Bidens.”

She added, “I want my president to have my back, and I don’t believe that’s the case right now.”

Narcissists don't quit, they just self-sabotage until everything implodes.

He's going where the crowds love him, he just wants the adulation and the optics of an enthusiastic crowd. It's in the similar vein  why they run campaign ads in D.C.  Serving the ego instead of serving any kinds of coherent strategy.

What posts about muslims immigrating to Europe?

I support sensible immigration policies and sheltering refugees of war as do most Europeans. We don't support bringing in millions of people without any sort of plan like Merkel wanted because she feared Erdogan.
Had Hilldawg not brought down Qaddafi because it would make her look tough or tried to bring down Assad, the refugee crisis wouldn't have existed in the first place. Hell, she'd probably be President instead of the orange man.

Between Joe and Donald. I dunno, after 3 years only the final year really was a disaster that cost hundreds of thousands of lives. But then I look at the rest of the world or even some American cities and states and some places aren't handling COVID-19 much better than he is. When I see Biden, it legit scares me he's reading interview answers from a teleprompter. I feel both of them would be a better President 10 years ago and all politicians should retire at 65.

Right now though, I'm seeing Trump pull the same shit he did in 2016 which was expected of him but I'm also seeing the Democrats play the 2016 playbook which just boggles the mind.
They had 4 years to prepare and they field the one 78 year old they could find that at times is even less coherent and more confused than Trump.

"Sorry, I have a very big call an emergency a very big call"

"Mr. President Mr. President Mr. President"

Quote
The Trump campaign is weighing a postelection strategy that would bypass the results in key swing states by installing electors who would vote for the president in the Electoral College even if he loses,

Using a rationale of baseless claims about widespread voter fraud and other irregularities with mail ballots, President Donald Trump "would ask state legislators to set aside the popular vote and exercise their power to choose a slate of electors directly," The Atlantic's Barton Gellman wrote, adding that "the longer Trump succeeds in keeping the vote count in doubt, the more pressure legislators will feel to act before the safe-harbor deadline expires."

Since you guys are busy with the dumbocrats, I thought Id drop in tails from the future. Ignore my post, but remember it.

---

On the night of Sunday November 1, 2020, Trump appeared on television and announced that he was "temporarily dissolving" the Congress of the Republic and "reorganizing" the Judicial Branch of the government. He then ordered the US Army to drive a tank to the steps of Congress to shut it down. When a group of senators attempted to hold session, tear gas was deployed against them.

That same night, the military was sent to detain prominent members of the political opposition. Trump is currently on trial for the kidnapping of journalist Anderson Cooper and businessman Meg Whitman, both of whom were detained by the military on the night of the coup.

One of the most criticized moves that Trump took was the attempt to arrest former president Barack Obama, in order to have him face numerous trials.

Trump issued Executive Order 25418, which dissolved the Congress, gave the Executive Branch all legislative powers, suspended much of the Constitution, and gave the president the power to enact various reforms, such as the "application of drastic punishments" towards terrorists. Trump called for elections of a new congress that was later named the Republican Constitutional Congress ); Trump received a majority in this new congress, which later drafted the 2021 Constitution. Trump also set about curtailing the independence of the judiciary and constitutional rights with a declaration of a state of emergency and curfews, as well as enacting controversial "severe emergency laws" to deal with terrorism.

There was little initial domestic resistance to the auto-coup. An opinion poll carried out shortly thereafter indicated that Trumps's decision to dissolve Congress and restructure the judicial system had an 52% approval rating. The economic and political situation was so poor at the time that for many Americans things could get only better. At the time, Trumps's bold and risky economic reforms (the "DonPlan") appeared to be working.

Trump himself claimed that the auto-coup was necessary to break with the deeply entrenched interests that were hindering him from rescuing America from the chaotic state in which former president Barack Obama had left it, but critics say that he could never have implemented his drastic liberal economic reform under a democratic government. Another group of military officers led by ADM Karl L. Schultz attempted to overthrow Trump on November 13.

Just a reminder of what to look forward to.
