Which artist/group had the greatest 3 album run?
« on: December 01, 2016, 10:25:14 PM »
3 consecutive, high-quality if not classic, albums.

My vote would probably go to Pink Floyd for:
Dark Side of the Moon --> Wish You Were Here --> Animals

My non rap answer would be either Portishead - Dummy -> Third, or Radiohead OK Computer -> Amnesiac.  I know those are boring choices, but they're damn good!  Way harder for me to choose from hip-hop.  Too many artists held in high regard whose discographies I haven't gone deep enough into.  I need to listen to more Kool G and Masta Ace for instance.

Ride The Lightning -> Master Of Puppets -> And Justice For All

Tri State -> Group Therapy -> We Are All We Need

Homework -> Discovery -> Hum......err never mind.

It's kinda hard with a lot of what I like since dance music is such a singles-dominated genre.

Can't get into that last album, man.

Just from people that have died this year:

Prince (Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain)

Bowie (TWICE: Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, and then again with Station to Station, Low, and Heroes)

Leonard Cohen (Various Positions, I'm Your Man, The Future)

Talking Book (1972)
Innervisions (1973)
Fulfillingness' First Finale (1974)
Songs in the Key of Life (1976)

Four albums in a row that kick ass.

Came in to post these two and also...

Matchbox Twenty:
Yourself or Someone Like You
Mad Season
More Than You Think You Are

All 3 are perfect albums IMO with unique sounds and obvious progression for the group.

Matchbox 20?  Don't you need at least one good album before you can have three good ones in a row?

I say none. Many great artists had 2 great albums and finding a third is iffy. You can find moments of brilliance on the third, but it's not as strong as the other two.

I don't find 1999 to be that great of an album, tbh. Had some great hits, but the bottom half of that album is pretty weak.

The Beatles just don't speak to me. Michael Jackson is the same way. I recognize the greatness and talent, but none of their music resonates with me.

I'm more of a Prince and Rolling Stones kind of guy.

Can we turn this into an "unpopular music opinion" thread?  Because I can't listen to an entire Beatles or Queen album.  Both groups are extremely talented and have some great songs but they're so hit and miss for me.  When they miss they're way off the mark but when they hit it's fucking great.

Oh and Aerosmith is mostly trash too (not sure that's an unpopular opinion).

The Eels had a six album run  :o

Beautiful Freak, Electro-Shock Blues, Daisies of the Galaxy, Souljacker,  Shootenanny!, Blinking Lights and Other Revelations

It would be an seven album run but they released a greatest hits album before Hombre Lobo.

Ghostface Killah

Ironman
Supreme Clientele
Bulletproof Wallets
The Pretty Toney Album
Fishscale

I've listened to the new album only once so far; it was ok, but very inconsistent. Again, only one listen though.
