When I first started at my job, and we were rewriting our student management system from scratch, we were discussing how the 'gender' field would be stored in our SQL database. The team was originally going with 'binary' but I, being forward-thinking, said we should make it an integer (enumeration) just in case there will be multiple (and the rest of the team agreed to that). How many progressive virtue signaling points do I get for that?

It'd be a good idea to mention to your potential employer that the application should be more inclusive.  The tone of the OP suggests that it didn't bother you much, but if they adjust the application at your suggestion then I'm sure future gender queer applicants would appreciate it.  Might seem small, but these things do matter.
