EVE Online: Become a Star Citizen - For Free!

Good morning fellow sociopaths and masochists! Boy, do I have a proposition for you today! You might have heard of EVE Online, probably the oldest MMO still around? Well, it's free now! Kinda. Free enough to have fun, at least.

You might have also heard that despite its respectable age, EVE has just seen the biggest fight in history a few hours ago, when Northern Coalition, Pandemic Legion, Pandemic Horde, Waffles, Mercenary Coalition and Darkness took out a massive Keepstar citadel owned by Circle of Two, a fight that took several days and had several thousand players involved. Essentially, Circle of Two claimed that they were sabotaged and couldn't use station defense, which meant the attackers got cocky and brought everything they had. That got Bomber's Bar and Spectre Fleet involved, two independent organizations specializing in stealth operations, with fleet members from many of the smaller organisations in the game. They blew up a couple dozen battleships, then Circle of Two announced that their Citadel was, in fact, fully armed and operational the whole time, and blew up Darkness' supercapital fleet. Circle of Two ultimately lost, but they made sure their opponents lost more than they did. While the major players moved massive fleets to the North to fight the Citadel, some previously uninvolved entities seized the opportunity in the South and took over a few of the now mostly abandoned systems there.

This is EVE's meta in a nutshell. Shit like this happens all the time, and you can be part of it if you want. Or you can fly small gangs through nullsec, in throw-away frigates, and there's a ton of fun to be had there as well. Or you can be a hard working miner and die of old age and boredom. Or you can be a highsec pirate and have the world hate you. Or you can stay docked in Jita and play the market all day. Also, we have the best bantz and the best propaganda in gaming (and yes, autism helps):

And something that isn't a dumb music video:

So yeah, why not give it a spin? it's probably more fun than you think. Or less. Depends on what you're doing and what you were expecting. Just don't play it alone. That's fucking boring. If you enjoy shit talking and not actually doing anything worthwhile, I can hook you up. Just message me in game ("Mari Hita"). Also, there's a referral thing which I'm not going to post.

I tried a few hears ago but the training og skills taking real time days is so annoying

In an alternative universe If play this all the time, just no time in this one

I love the music

The real time training is even more annoying for F2P players, because it takes twice as long. On the other hand, I do like the fact that you progress even if you don't have time or are not in the mood to play for a few days. And it's not really that big of a deal, you'll want to fly cheap ships for the first few roams anyway, and you get decent skills for that in the time it takes to finish the tutorial and career agent missions. If you also do the Sisters of Eve epic ark, which I generally recommend to new players because it teaches you a lot and has nice rewards (it can be tough to do the epic arks while you're in a corporation, because then you're pretty much constantly at war with someone), you are kept busy until you can fly cruisers, the biggest class of ships F2P players have access to.

I started a new character a few weeks ago. I got stuck doing one of the exploration training missions :\

I'll probably pick it back up when I'm on vacation next week.

Yeah, some of the tutorial missions aren't all that well explained. If you do get back to it and want to join a corporation, feel free to shoot me a mail ("Mari Hita"). We do everything, alphas are welcome, we offer training and we have a nice highsec HQ in a quiet system right next to lowsec and nullsec.

I'll probably take you up on it. I wanna get to the point where I can have a nice relaxing space game where I can go out and explore and mine and stuff and see cool things. The tutorials are def better than they where back when I played like 4 years ago but they still leave a lot to be desired.

Even if you only want to explore or mine, the profitable systems are usually the dangerous ones. On the other hand, after getting your shit blown up a few times, you either stop being afraid and simply enjoy the view, or you quit the game. That's just how it works. What I really like about the alliance I'm in is that it's very relaxed, and we have quite a few very experienced veterans. Nobody whines when he loses a ship or gets scammed. It's just part of the game, and we all know that we would have done the same given the opportunity.

And another thing that might sound ridiculous: Eve has the nicest community I've ever seen in a game. Sure, some people will call you a cigarillo and tell you to git gud or kill yourself, and we have our fair share of assholes, but most people I've encountered are helpful and friendly. Often while (or after) they blow you up, but still. Shit talking and murder are just part of the game. After all, killing is just a means of communication:
