ASUS ASUS ASUS ASUS ANUS ASUS ASUS ASUS ASUS

I've had five of their monitors over the last eight years and have been pleased with all of them.

Currently using two MX monitors for my stuff.

An MX299Q 29" 21:9 2560x1080 IPS for PC:

And an MX279H 27" 16:9 1920x1080 IPS for consoles:

And then an older ML228H 21.5" LED in my wife's office room:

If you have an AMD card the Viewsonic might be better because of Freesync. The tomshardware review of the Viewsonic is pretty impressive. I've been looking for 144hz monitors too, the problem is that I want to buy a 27" and I'm afraid that the pixel density might suck at 1080p.

From my experience, 27" 1080P looks great with console games, but is not so hot with PC games.  I'd stay around 23" max for that.  I would not have purchased my 27" monitor if I was going to use it strictly for PC gaming.  I used it briefly as my PC monitor when I was in the middle of moving and the picture was noticeably pixelated when using a lot of applications.  Nothing too horrible, either, but still noticeable enough that I was glad to go back to a smaller monitor.

I agree. 1080p is good for up to 24". With 27" you want 1440p.

Damn that ASUS monitor looks good.

Personally I'm holding out for a 34" 3440x1440 144Hz IPS monitor.

Crap. There really isn't a good choice when looking for a 144hz 27" monitor. Either you have to buy an expensive 1440p monitor and a beast of a card to put those 144hz to use or go 1080p which like you said looks kinda bad. Crap.

ASUS Rog Swift are fantastic. I've got the PG279Q and it's the highest quality monitor I've used. 165hz and unmatched picture quality.

HOWEVER, I'd recommend sticking to a 144hz monitor as the PC specs you need to drop to have games running higher than that is nothing to sneeze at. Also It's tough to tell the difference between 144hz and 165hz.

I see there's some 180Hz monitors now too apparently.

I wonder if it's worth the trouble. Maybe beyond 144Hz there's not that much difference.
Careful, you don't wanna waken those people.

Tbh 144Hz is plenty enough, at least for some years to come.
..Wonder if I could even see the difference between 144Hz and 180Hz.

It takes a special attention to detail to see any differences above 144hz. Not worth it and if anyone tells you otherwise you probably shouldn't take their advice.

4K HDR monitors are a'comin'.  I wonder how insanely-priced this is.  :lol

Quote
ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced Swift PG27UQ, a 27-inch G-SYNC HDR gaming monitor that is the very first to offer 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) gaming visuals at an ultra-fast 144Hz refresh rate for the gaming experience with incredible contrast, deep saturated colors, and stunning brightness. Quantum-dot display technology gives PG27UQ a wide DCI-P3 color gamut for more realistic colors and smooth color gradations. In addition, PG27UQ has a peak brightness of 1,000cd/m² and a high contrast ratio for exceptional distinction between light and dark hues. G-SYNC variable refresh rate technology provides tear-free, smooth, and low-lag gameplay. PG27UQ is built for gaming enthusiasts and pro-gamers, and is designed to take gaming visuals to a whole new level.

4K UHD visuals with a 144Hz refresh rate

ROG Swift PG27UQ is the very first monitor to run 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) content at a 144Hz refresh rate to provide gamers with detailed ultra-high definition visuals at extremely super-smooth frame-rates. Gamers are treated to unmatched levels of detail, with sharp images and crisp text. Fast-moving visuals pose no problem for PG27UQ thanks to an ultra-fast 144Hz refresh rate. This results in silky-smooth gameplay with no frustrating lag or motion blur, so gamers get the upper hand in first- person shooters, racing, real-time strategy and sports titles. ROG Swift PG27UQ features two DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI port for 4K UHD content playback and versatile connectivity.

NVIDIA ® G-SYNC High Dynamic Range (HDR) monitors offer a range of luminance that is closer to what the human eye can experience, and offer a wider color range than traditional monitors. ROG Swift PG27UQ features G-SYNC HDR technology for a peak brightness several times greater than standard displays for stunning, vivid visuals. The LED backlight is dynamically controlled across 384 zones, enabling very high contrast for richer, more natural dark scenes. Quantum-dot technology provides brighter images and supports the cinema-standard DCI-P3 color gamut. DCI-P3 has a 25%-wider color range than sRGB, resulting in more realistic colors.

In-plane switching (IPS) technology also gives PG27UQ wide viewing angles so there is no color shift even when viewing the monitor from extreme positions. NVIDIA G-SYNC and HDR technologies deliver super smooth, tear-free visuals and the most breathtaking and responsive HDR gaming imaginable with incredible contrast, deep saturated colors, and stunning brightness.

Everyone with the ASUS VG248QE, what are your settings on it? I always felt that my colors might be a little off, but I'm too lazy to tinker with it.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. Can't find a proper setting/calibration I feel 100% comfortable with. It also looks extra "off" next to my 60Hz. Also, I can't seem to fix the font with ClearType.

Did some quick Googling. I'm in bed now but I'm gonna give these a try tomorrow:

Here's my settings:

Scenery Mode
Brightness: 80
Contrast: 70
Saturation: 50
Color Temp: Normal
Skin Tone: Natural
Smart View: Off
Sharpness: 50
TraceFree: 0
ASCR: off

Had it there for awhile and I like the way it looks. Though I haven't spent much time looking into custom profiles so ymmv

I've seen people talk about the Trace Free setting but when I put mine up the screen gets all funky. Either weird fuzzyness or color distortion. Not sure what thats all about.

Pretty sure if you want the least amount of input lag, you need to have it on game mode.

There's plenty of screen calibration tools out there to mess with and get something you like.
