Buy into what? It's true that the African continent had amazing civilizations and empires. This is used commonly to promote self confidence and assurance in black people who otherwise have low self worth or self esteem. When you tell them of our ancestors achievements it helps them deal with the present and strive for a better future. It's no different than Native American's mourning the loss of their empires.

But Hoteps take it to an extreme and it becomes a main part of their black identity to the point where they use it to promote their own interpretation of black supremacy. But this isn't an educated black supremacy. It's a smart dumb "I read this in a pamphlet once" black supremacy.

I guess it's trending somehow now to float closer to the surface of the mainstream, because this stuff has always been there, interestingly using the same methods both in english and french : some dude spamming message boards with walls of text pasted from some afrosupremacist site, generally obsessed with superficial shaky "analysis" of paintings & statues (Olmec faces, egyptian busts) to prove the anteriority of black civilization, sometimes to absurd lengths (Europe was really ruled by black skinned aristocrats up until the middle ages !) as a knee-jerk reaction to Euro-centric history.

I guess go look at a summary of the work of Senegalese historian Anta Diop because really it's just a rehashing of that without the actual scientific credentials.

The way black men have been responding to the Serena Williams engagement news has been super embarrassing.  Compare her Coli thread to the one about Lil Fame of MOP marrying a white woman (who I doubt was anywhere near as rich as Ohanian).  They aren't all self-identified hoteps, but their reasons for scorning Williams are the same. They perceive black feminism, womanism, and all queer identities as being invented by white people to attack their masculinity.
