What did you finish 2017 Edition
« on: January 13, 2017, 06:38:20 AM »
Last year was busy and only finished a dozen games or so.

This year is off to a flying start though:

Doom - what a great fps, just the right length too, got a bit easier later on it seemed :)

I Expect You To Die -- Good ass room escape game, works great on PSVR, super entertaining, short tho
Snatcher -- This kind of ages badly but is nevertheless badass if you play it in the right mindset
DooM 2016 -- The only real cool game
D4: DARK DREAMS DON'T DIE -- More Japanese David Lynchian entertainment, pity the story will never be finished :(

Are there upgrades for weapons or skills? Lately those types of games are surprising me with how much easier they get. MAD MAX started off feeling really hard but, with a few upgrades, I have been schooling wasteland fools like the Dean of the School of Advanced Asskicking.

You're probably also using things better than at the beginning of the game.

I remember playing one of the commercial Quake add-ons, and being unable to finish the final boss until I realized I'd saved a mess of power-ups. Activated one of each at the beginning of the stage, and the boss was gibbed before I finished the first clip.

I'll have to pick up Doom one of these days, but my backlog is stupid on 360, and getting worse on PS4.

I beat Atelier Sophie. I'm not sure how long it took me (probably ~30 hours) because the clock is glitched and it continues running even when the game is minimized, so I have like 500 hours on the in-game clock.  :doge

One month, and 50 hours into my latest attempt at Skyrim.

Started up, character standing in a field. Checked my quest log, about 20 Main/side quests, as well as a full bag of ore to make weapons and armor, and more armor and weapons to disenchant. Not to mention the plethora of shrooms and butterfly wings, readied to make some powerful potions.

I paused for a moment, the beautiful music, and awe inspiring scenery washing over me. I serenely looked out the window, and said, "Nicca, I aint got time for this shit. Cool game, but I don't have 20 years to play this, I got shit to do."

And that, my friends, was the day I beat Skyrim.

World of Warcraft: Legion

Took 50/60 hours to finish up the class campaign and stuff, was a good ride but now i arrived at the point where its all about getting better gear by doing same ole dungeons over and over so thats the sign i hve to quit

overall maybe the coolest expansion and a true return to form, shame I cant raid or anything and the cross realm instancing really killed any form server community but hey thats mmo games in 2017 and its just isnt the same anymore

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin

I gave up on the DLC at Fume Knight (who apparently is considered one of, if not the hardest boss in the game) and just beat the last boss(es) with two summoned players (which would have been MORE USEFUL at Fume Knight)

Whatever, fuck this game.

Persona 5-Which I really enjoyed. The story and characters were more interesting and relateable to me than previous games. In general to me the game seemed to really build upon and be a love letter to the previous two games.

Horizon-Really good game and kind of what I wish all open world games were. Single player focused with fun main missions and side content that was'nt overwhelming and felt actually hand crafted. Really cool story and main character. Also most of the mech fights felt epic and are a sight to behold. The human fights were kind of flat. The game also looked amazing.

Witcher 3 Blood and Wine-The main quest I think takes a bit to get going, but it does. The new setting is beatfiul and relaxing to be in, but in the end I thought Hearts was better. While the story is cool in how morally grey it is, but honestly not in an epic way and all the characters feel like actual adults. I think the main new character in Hearts was more engaging in his motvations and that wedding party scene is unmatched. Also, you fight a lot of monsters and it kind of reveals how the combat kind of feels like you are just frailing around.Still really good.

Nier Automata-I wish I liked it more. While it is filled with stuff I like and it's aesthetic is my jam, I think in the end I really disliked playing as 9S and all the hacking. Also in the end the story telling just doesn't suit me. I just don't gravitate to more abstract type of thinking. Still solid and really creative. When you are playing as 2B and A2 it's really fun.

Still have Yakuza 0(and then Kiwami), Dragon Quest Heroes 2, Exist Archive, Tales of Beseria, Nioh, Resident Evil 7, Kingdom Hearts 2.8, and Gravity Rush 2 as games I'd like to play through.

Play the first 5 hours of Exist Archive, and you'll have a good feel for the next 40. The game makes asset reuse into an art form. Some of the character designs are cool, I like the chick in the game named Himuro:

Since last time I posted I finished Gravity Rush 2.

I "liked" it. I mean yes it is more Gravity Rush and with that comes the fact that the combat is still pretty bad. The way throwing stuff works has been made easier and as an effect of that combat is kind of piss dumb. You can easily just pick up things, even the human enemies, and just throw them around without even trying to awkwardly trying to do the gravity kick. So I guess thats good....

But in the end I didn't really have a lot of complaints. People complained about stealth missions. I only did the main stuff, but I don't remember any. Thats how un-impacting they were. I skipped the side missions and had no trouble getting the power ups, but since you don't level up health and the gravity gauge anymore, it's not like powering up stuff is mandatory.

Still the art and music is amazing. Flying around the first area is simply amazing and returning to Hecksville was nice(though not as great as the new city/town).

It's just a super charming game and honestly the fight with Angel was epic. You start in the sky and then basically can switch between the sky and land freely.

Also for some reason I replayed Halo 4 and 5 and honestly they really ilustrate why Halo is bascily and irrelevant series now.

I feel in MP the problem is 5's focus on E-Sports. Halo is not an e-sport. Battlefield is also not an e-sport and is extrmley popular, probably because it's just embraced what people like about it. I think people liked Halo for obviously the good gameplay, but also a lot of it's goofyness. The weapon countering, the memorable levels that were not about being perfectly balanced, and other stuff. I loved playing CTF in BTB in Halo 2 would continue playing Halo, but all this equipment, load outs, and rec pack shit just gets in the way. Also god is it on ugly game on those forge maps.

But the single player for 5 is super lame. 343 really doubled down on Halo lore which is dumb I'm sorry. Halo lore is for people my age who were too young for Star Trek and Star Wars when they debued and needed a fandom/lore to be thier own. But it's super dumb, focused on constantly talking about random Nouns that you could care less about. The composer, the mantle, the librarian, the whatever. It's a sci-fi universe that throws every sci-fi cliche into it. Ancient aliens, no anchient humans, dead progenitor races, ect ect. Except with little style and it becomes another lame Humans are special crap. The thing is Halo 4 and 5 take this super seriously with no levity. At least Bungie had some humor and in the end it really was about a dude fighting off an alien invasion, not being space jesus.

While I know people like Master Chief for some reason, the story hasn't been expanded well. It hasn't been able to move past him and Cortanna. So focusing on them again feels like it makes the universe and story smaller in 5.

I don't know there just doesn't feel like any excitement in these games.

Destiny 2 took up most of my time, but that game is falling hard so I actually played other games:

Xbox One:

Destiny 2
Walking Dead: New Frontier
Saints Row 4: Re-Elected
South Park: Fractured Buthole
Gone Home
Layers of Fear

PS4:

Horizon Zero Dawn
Bloodborne
Uncharted: Lost Legacy

3DS:

Shin Megami Tensei 4: Apocalypse
