10 years ago: I was still struggling after an attempt to move back to the USA, where I had a great job, real friends I could meet in-person each day, and more money than I'd ever made — and gave it up to go back to Japan because my wife's dad was apparently dying. Rather than work more in Japan gamedev, I taught myself database stuff, founded my own company, and did contract database and app work for universities and medical device companies. Great at first, but stumbled for a year with a bad business partner (childhood friend), so I returned to games and moved to Tokyo, away from my family again.
10 years from now: Retired, living an even more thrifty lifestyle, probably in an akiya in the Japan countryside. Likely social mostly virtualy though I'm hopeful for improvements in telepresence. Hopefully there will be a machine that reads my paper books to me (yes, I know about audiobooks), or allows my bullshit aging vision to read the text directly more easily.
