Blackalicious owns my soul

Thanks for reminding me PD. I popped in Blazing Arrow. Sigh, it's been a while. Top 5 hip hop album for me.

Gift of Gab is the best west coast MC out right now, and it sucks people don't think of him.

Boy if you think Blazing Arrow is good, you should check out the Melodica EP

Five songs (six if you get the original release on Solesides, seven if you get the Mo' Wax version) of unbelivable goodness. "Rhymes for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind" is one of the best hip-hop songs EVER.

When I first heard Melodica, I thought Blackalicious would be my favorite hip-hop group of all time, but their quality has gone downhill after each release. "The Craft" is embarrassing.

PD: The GAME??!?! Fucking end your life.

I haven't heard any of their EP's, just their LP's. How many EP's they got?

I heard some of the Craft. It's not better than their past work but still better than 90% of the hip hop released that year.

Yes but that only goes to show how sorry a state hip-hop is in. "Powers" makes me want to vomit.

Hmm, I read a comment and..

Quote
i must warn you that anyone who thinks it might be a good idea to buy this album at $70 plus is sorely mistaken. This album is not as rare as people make it out to be. In fact you could go to a local FYE store and have them special order the 1994 release of this album for as little as $7.99. Please do not be made a fool of by these people trying to pass this masterpiece off as rare.

Is this true?

Yeah that's the Mo' Wax edition. Back when I used to collect vinyl, I found a copy of that - with fuckin' INSTRUMENTALS - in a used bin at a local store... for $4.99.   :o

The '94 release is probably the Solesides one... I know that ALL the versions are hard to find, with the Mo' Wax one being the most difficult. But paying $70 for those two extra songs? I mean they're dope but no, I wouldn't pay that much money for it.

Go to the mall and look for it. They've got Mos Def's Black on Both Sides album listed for like $30 but you can find it at a store for less than half

I can find Black on Both at best buy for like 15. In fact, that's where I got it. I'll give it a shot, but every time I go to a store and look at blackalicious stuff, it's the LP's.

Um...

He mimics Dre's rap style
Shouts out Dre on every song despite not having him on his album
Is a bitch
Constantly contradicts himself
Can't write a chorus to save his life
Won't admit 50 wrote his hits (choruses)

But despite all that....Game>>>>>>>50 Cent

I love The Game.  Truly a pioneer in hip hop.  I'm listening to him right now.  What's wrong with him?

I woke up out that coma two thousand and one
'Bout the same time Dre dropped "2001"
Three years later the album is done
Aftermath presents "nicca Witta Attitude, Volume One"
Rap critics politickin, wanna know the outcome
"Ready to Die" "Reasonable Doubt" and "Doggystyle" in one
I feel like 'Pac after the Snoop Dogg trial was done
Dre behind that G series and "All Eyez on Me"
I watched the death of a dynasty, so I told Vibe Magazine
Workin with Dr. Dre was a {dream}
I had visions of makin a classic, then my world turned black
like I was starin out of Stevie Wonders glasses
It's kinda hard to imagine, like Kanye West
comin back from his fatal accident to beatmakin and rappin
But, we the future, Whitney Houston told me that
And it's gon' take more than a bullet in the heart to hold me back

[Chorus: The Game]
Russian and this 40 ounce, lettin the ink from my pen bleed
Cause Martin Luther King had a {dream}
Aaliyah had a {dream} Left Eye had a {dream}
So I reached out to Kanye and {I brought you all my dreams}
{Cause I love you, I love you, I love you}
{I-highhhhhh love you}

[The Game]
I had dreams, of fuckin, a R&B bitch like Mya
When I saw that ass on the front of that King
Read the article in the magazine, she loved gangsters, loved nasty things
So I'm in the glass house havin nasty dreams
Good girls never give it up
But anything is possible, if 50 fucked Vivica
Hurdled life's obstacles, found my way through the maze
Then joy turned to pain like Frankie Beverly and Maze
Used to dream of bein +Unsigned Hype+, 'til I was crushed by Dave Mays
Almost let my pen fall asleep on the page
Daydreamin yesterday, dozin off backstage
I thought I saw Eazy talkin to Jam Master Jay
So I walked over, heard Jam Master say
"It's a hard knock life, then you pass away"
They say sleep is the cousin of death, so my eyes wide open
Cause a dream is kin to your last breath

[Chorus]

[The Game]
The dream of Huey Newton that's what I'm livin through
The dream of Eric Wright, that's what I'm givin you
Who walked through the White House without a business suit
Compton had jheri curl drippin on Ronald Reagan's shoes
Gave Mike Lem my demo, came here to pay my dues
Started off with Whoo Kid, then I start blazin Clue
It was all a dream like Big said it'd be
Don't sleep on me homey, I bring nightmares to reality
Rap phenomenon, defyin the rules of gravity
Studied all the classics, start revisin my strategy
Cause Marshall Mathers made it, Curtis Jackson made it
Head in the clouds, wonderin where the hell Marvin Gaye went
How do I say this - I'm livin for my son
but I can't figure out, why I'm at my temple with this gun
Wake up to a Jesus piece like a catholic nun
The war to be a rap legend, has just begun

[Chorus]

[The Game]
This song is dedicated to Yetunde Price
The sister of Venus and Serena Williams
who was slain during a gang shootout in Compton
Sunday, September 14th, 2003 - rest in peace

{I brought you all my dreams}
{Cause I love you, I love you, I love you}
{I-highhhhhh love you}

That's actually a good song though

The concept and stuff is good, but they lyrics are so goddamn atrocious if you understand what he's referencing to because it's like every line is a bite off of someone else. The Game can do better, but for most of The Doc he spent worshipping his idols rather than speaking his mind. The song Like Father Like Son was by far the high light of the album and the only truly replayable track.

Well, I haven't listened to any of his stuff since Doc. Let me guess, his new album flunked because he lacked G Unit support and Dre beats, right? People didn't like it because of that?

Lots of people like it, but it hasn't even gone platinum yet. I don't know if you knew this, but his album was slated to come around the time Jay-Z's album was coming out. He got on all the media outlets and told Jay-Z to delay his album because he was going to sell so much more. Then he started talking about going 5 times platinum again lol

Album came out at like 350,000 in a week, and today is around 790,000 lol. Jay Z's album is like at 1.2 million :lol
