How early do you wake up for work and why?
« on: March 22, 2017, 06:01:55 PM »
4:00 am or 5:00 am so I can...

>beat traffic (I fucking hate traffic with a passion and people drive like idiots in my state)
>get on top of a bunch of work with little to no interruptions
>eat a large breakfast so I can easily skip lunch and get more work done
>draw for fun if I don't have any work that needs my immediate attention
>seem like I'm hyper productive/on the ball compared to everyone else at my job by getting to the office at 6 am like a goddamn machine with no life outside of work  :doge

About an hour before leaving, I need to time to adjust to the idea of being awake

I wake up at 5:00 AM.  I wake up that early to do my morning routine which consists of the following:

- Take a piss
- Jerk off to pornography, usually consisting of a lady with large breasts
- Let my dog stretch his legs, eat, and drink
- Take him on a 15-20 mini walk where he usually goes to the bathroom
- Take a giant shit where I'm usually looking at work e-mails, dreading the day I'm about to face, sometimes I log onto The Bore instead
- Cook breakfast (usually three eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc.)
- Take a long shower until the hot water is all gone
- Shave, deodorant, etc.
- Put on clothes and realize that the work day is close to beginning
- Leave the house (usually is about 6:30 AM)
- Listen to podcasts on my way into work
- Go to work and start the grind by 7:00 AM

At my work, most people come in between 7:30 and 8:30.  So I do get typically an hour of quiet time before the endless cascade of phone calls, e-mails, and meetings.

I'm due at work at 8. If I wake up at 7, I can take a shower and be at my desk on time, relaxed, and ready to work.

Wake up at 7AM, help get the wife and kids off to work and school, mess around on Bore and FB for half an hour or so and then go upstairs to work on stuff starting at 8:30.

Are you still spending a lot of time in hotels and doing remote work?

My alarm is set for 7 but since I don't have to Skype with Spain anymore I usually snooze another 20-30 minutes. Main reason I get up so early is the drive distance.

One of my first jobs out of college I overslept a bunch of times and I remember getting in trouble for it a lot. Nowadays  I'm usually ready to fall asleep by like 10pm anyhow, I don't stay up until 2 or 3 regularly like I did back then.

That's the BEST.

One place I worked had a flex schedule, so I started getting in before 6AM. Before the rest of the crew arrived at 10AM, I'd already gotten 4 hours of uninterrupted work done. In itself, that felt like I'd already achieved as much as any standard-schedule day.

Another place I worked, we had a programmer who would come in at 2AM or 3AM, and then leave 11~12 hours later. Some of the team wanted to give guff about cutting out so early in the afternoon, but we had to tell them, "Look, he's already put in nearly 12 hours, so give it a rest."

Wake up around 6:30, get up around 7:00, do unorganized shit for 2-4 hours, go to my mindnumbing boring job. ADHS and flexible work times really don't go together well, especially not if you hate your job.

I could leave a lot earlier, well not a lot an hour and a bit earlier, but I'd make everyone here salty and at the end of the day it's not worth having a shit reputation at work.

All you crazy morning people. I can barely make it out of bed at 7:45...then I'll shower, get dressed and leave my house around 8:30, to arrive anywhere from 8:55 - 9:15 depending on whether or not traffic on the LIE cooperates (fat chance).

My alarm goes off at 4:30 but I don't get out of bed until 5:00—usually looking at nonsense on the phone or sleeping. I then go to the bathroom and idiotically bring my phone with me.

I turn on the shower and sit down on the toilet and continue to browse my phone for 5-15 minutes. I then take a 10 minute shower. At 5:25 I freak out and trying to quickly style my hair, brush my teeth, moisturize, and sometimes trim my facial hair.

By 5:35 I am hating myself because I should be leaving for work but now I'm feeding the dogs and taking them outside. I come back in and grab something from the fridge for lunch. I look at my watch and it's 5:45 and I am going to be late for work.

I grab my motorcycle gear and forget my lunch on the counter. I speed to work at 80 mph, get in 10 minutes late at 6:10, and realize I forgot my lunch. I tell myself, "tomorrow will be different." Repeat ad infinitum.

6:45, because that's the absolute latest I can get up and still make it to work by 7:30.

6:45 on the dot. Make kids breakfast, take out dog, pack kids lunch/bags, quickly dress and brush teeth, then leave by 7:40.

I do all my prep work at night (shower, clothes, lunch) so I don't have to waste any time on myself in the morning.

The best way to do it. The less you have to do right after getting up the better.

Varies greatly. Sometimes I have to be there at 6:45, others at 8:15, and every now and then not before 10 or 12.

Usually get up an hour before work, except when I have to meet in early, when I wake up at 6. Because fuck waking up before 6 am.

5:30-5:35 AM.  I leave at 6:15-6:20AM and it takes me around 20 minutes to get to work.  There's generally no traffic problems that early.

As for the why part...I start at 6:45 AM.  Technically official start time is 7:00 AM but I get paid for that 15 minutes and use the time to get ready, I.E. throwing my laptop into the docking station and starting stuff up.  It's pretty dead most days until around 8:30 AM, so I usually spend the time eating my breakfast and browsing sites until stuff starts happening.

Then I leave at 3:15 PM and usually get home in around 20 minutes as well.  It's really nice to be able to avoid traffic most days.

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 5 am
I go straight to the bathroom, brush my teeth, and try to poo. I have a digestive illness so this part takes a lot more time and effort than I'd like.  Sometimes there's no bowel action and I give up.  Next, I put on a t shirt and shorts then head to the gym.  I get back home around 8 am to shower, get dressed for work, and eat breakfast.  Before I leave I take my lunch and protein shake out of the fridge.  I get to the office between 8:50 and 9:10 am most mornings.

Tuesday and Thursday: 6:30 am
The process is very similar to the above except for the gym stuff. I drink water with breakfast (I don’t drink anything on gym days until I have my shake in the office) and refill the bottle to drink some more with lunch.

I prepare the full week's lunch on Sunday to save time.  The only phone app I use on Tuesdays and Thursdays is the clock and Google Sheets.  The later is because I've been recording the times I go to bed and wake up for more than 2 years now.  On gym days I use my phone to listen to listen to music.  Scrolling through Twitter every morning would wreck my schedule.

Used to be 5-5:30 am a couple years back because I generally worked the morning shift on a 3x8 job and I had an hour of commute. But now I'm mostly blocked into the afternoon slot.
