In hindsight, joining The Bore was fate.

I think Vestal or Cormacaroni invited me here after Tokyopia.com DNS was sold to the marketers of a product which never launched.

How about you?

Not sure but somehow found out about it when I was a regular on GAF. I occasionally posted here but mostly was still over there until I got banned and switched full time thank god.

I knew of the place back when it was called EvilBore. Don't quite remember how, someone must have mentioned it on GAF. Years later I thought to check it out again, but saw that it had re-incarnated as The Bore. Lurked for a bit, then eventually registered. The rest is shitposting history.

Ultimately because I wanted a gameshark for gamecube.

Joined a gameshark forum when I was like 13 or something basically to pester them to make one for gamecube before there was one -- got way into that forum to where I went to their irc channel, which was hosted on the same server as GAF's so eventually joined GAF, from GAF to here.

First saw this place a few weeks after it started.  I left after I saw it was full of the same OA chaff I was used to seeing on every GAF spinoff board (Saint Cornelius, mondain, futami, and enjoy bell woods).

I came back late 2007 I think when there was some cross forum drama with Shark Johnson.  I saw that by that time the OA trash was gone so I registered.  Also at this time GAF was quickly turning into shit so I was looking for a new place to shitpost anyway.

I can't remember.  I think it was just wondering what happened to certain posters on GAF and then being told about this place.  Hard to believe that was almost 11 years ago already.

I think I got invited here by duckroll, who later quit along with half the posters here.  Might've been Vestal though.  God, that feels ages ago.

Quitting forums altogether I can understand.  Quitting this forum and staying on GAF...?

When I asked where this forum came from in 2006:
Apparently a user named cloudwalking punched another mod from another forum in the face and suplexed the other moderators and then another user named MAF lit them on fire and laughed at them. This was all while a user named Willco hacked into their servers and deleted all the code and did the same for the mirror server.

This is the real story of Evilbore, no lie

This site was born through barebacking with GAF. After the pregnancy EvilLore wanted an abortion, but MAF wanted to keep the child. EvilLore decided to kill the child himself. In order to save his only begotten son, MAF sent him in a small boat down the river. The boat was found by Willco and his mistress Cloudwalking, who proceded to raise the boy.

That boy was EvilBore.

What happened to OA, anyway?  Nobody ever talks about them anymore.  Last time I checked, I found more than one forum using the name.

There is only one active OA left but it is locked down tighter than the previous iterations.

I remember there once being three simultaneously active versions of OA before but that was ages ago.

Someone expand on this or correct me, please:

Not sure when Gaming-Age started, but the forums were early 2000s in not the late 90s.

Opa-Opa (Teh Kao Yang!) was a poster who lost his shit when Armada 2 got canceled for the Dreamcast, IIRC, which led to him getting banned.  He then founded the first GAF spin-off, Opa-Age.  Opa-Age has had multiple spin-offs/incarnations and has been called Opa-Ages for a while now.  Last time I checked, I didn't see many of the (in)famous posters there from the old days.

A few years later, GAF forum admin Evilore bought the forum from Gaming-Age founder Jim and re-named it NeoGAF.  Although not associated with Gaming-Age anymore, there's still a NeoGAF link on the website.  I have no idea why Jim sold the forum to Evilore, since I remember him saying that the forum got way more traffic than the website did.  There used to be a running joke saying "there's a website?" back then.

Then you have spin-offs like Evilbore/The Bore, Wasting Your Life (is that even still around?), and SLAENT, the latter of which was formed when NBA-GAF members including mod BlackAce all up and left after their threads were shut down.

Honorable mention goes to what has got to be the tiniest forum still in existence, now in its 1023832804320423904390th incarnation, which was founded by long-banned forum poster, my buddy, Leguna, who made some legendary threads back in the day.  Amazingly, he has had forums with just a couple of people for almost as long as Opa-Age has been around.  :lol

Opa himself has been long gone, it seems?

iirc Opa left for a few years and then came back.  He's had some pretty decent tech jobs, which is hilarious considering what comes up when you search for Teh Kao Yang.

Someone please give me a timeline/summary of Gaming-Age, Oppai-Age or whatever you call them. I'm a filthy noob, but I wanna know what it was like in the old times. Tell me, grandpa. :uguu

- GAF has been around in various iterations since the late 90s, including a time when malware would get installed thanks to ad banners (the more things change...)

- Opa Opa had a meltdown on GAF when Sega discontinued the Dreamcast.  He was banned.  So this was 2001.

- Opa Opa created Opa Ages.  This place was pretty anti-GAF but Amir0x and EviLore were members and regular posters.

- EviLore bought the forums off of Gaming Age in 2004 and turned into NeoGAF.  Many former GA staffers (Mandark, Drinky Crow, etc.) remained as mods or admins.  I think Drinky Crow wrote his infamous "vociferous laudations" review on GAF or Gamespot (I could be wrong).

- This was around the time (2005-2006) where Amir0x jizzed on a printout of Olimario's fiancee's nudes, took a picture of it, and then posted it on OA.  Amir0x is a classy guy.  Olimario traded the nudes originally for a PSP to m0rphix.  Somehow the nudes leaked even though m0rphix insisted up and down that he didn't do it.  Speculation was that Olimario traded the nudes for other favors on OA and the leak happened there.  He wound up marrying her and I think they are still married to this day.

- OA is full of losers so it was inevitable that drama broke out.  There are probably at least a dozen different iterations of OA from then to now.  Most of them only lasted a few months.

- Somewhere around 2008, Saint Cornelius tried to mack on whiteACID and it blew up in his face.  One of my most favorite moments on the internet.

- OA IMO started dropping off in terms of interesting shit a little after the Saint Cornelius debacle.  OA still exists to this day but it is a lot slower now than it used to be 10-15 years ago.

- A bunch of dipshits who were responsible for turning GAF into shit made a GAF spinoff, Wasting Your Life.  WYL fell apart in six weeks.  This was 2009 or 2010.

- Funnily enough, a WYL spinoff was created called Cyniculture that failed to launch.  costanza pretty much disappeared.  His butt buddy, snesfreak, disappeared as well but will show up if you post about him enough.  I bet that loser still has a Google Alert set up to alert him when someone talks about him.

There's a bunch of stuff left out here that can get filled in but those are the highlights.

I searched for something about GAF one day and this came up, then I saw a bunch of posters I liked were over here so I signed up and forgot about it and I think demi cleaned out the account with various spam ones because he knew deep down I wasn't ready.

Then a couple years later I was bored of NBA-GAF and PoliGAF rehashing the same stuff over and over again at the same time there was one of those "whatever happened to" threads that would get locked within ten minutes and I remembered here when people were mentioned and I signed up again and demi did a thorough background and health check and then approved me.

I got lucky because like a month later was when Oscar quit GAF after KevinCow annihilated him in public over Donkey Kong Country and he was only posting here after that.

Then a bunch of other people I liked or didn't mind came over and some others like Andrex became cool cuz of The Bore. Even people like Devo seemed to imbibe too much Bore and got laid back bout GAF. (Then there's that monster Steve Youngblood who only uses the place to lure in more victims for his reign of carnage.) And then Oscar quit here too. :fbm

When people give any history of the place they should use The Bore Revolutionary Calendar which would be based on Himu's mood and participation/complaint/worship/rage swings about the place I think.

I think I saw a namedrop of "Evilbore" somewhere in GAF OT around 2007, I decided to google it and noticed it was where a lot of my favorite GAF posters demi/Himu/Triumph/Drinky/TVC/Cloudwalking were now hanging out so I decided to join.
