Black Ops 2 backwards compatible (Xbox One)
« on: April 11, 2017, 01:23:21 PM »
Just a head-ups for anyone who loves this one like I do. Black Ops 2 was my favorite COD mp game of them all.

It's also on sale at the moment.

How does BLOPS 3 compare?

Black Ops 3 is a solid cod entry and a good game but its not the amazing game black ops 2 was.

1.) It has a terrible campaign. Just absolutely the worst cod campaign ever imo. The black ops campaigns were traditionally very fun and very silly but the black ops 3 one was so bad it was painful. And this is even considering I played it co-op which generally can make any experience fun.

2.) It has the wall running and boost jump stuff. It's not offensive in this regard. And its not nearly as chaotic and out of control as advanced warfare but that stuff will never fit into a cod game. The maps are too small and the gameplay is never designed around it like in Titanfall.

3.) The zombies stuff (which I was was never a big fan of) has gotten so esoteric and based around bizarre secrets you need to look up in youtube videos that for a casual guy like me, it has zero appeal. At least in the old ones you could get some pleasure in just shooting zombies. Now shooting zombies is a side thing as you run around doing 50 secret tricks to unlock all the features of the map.

4.) It has the loot drop weapon system that has infested all cod games to make money. Once again not as offensive as in Advanced Warfare but the idea that I need a random generator to hopefully side with me to try out new weapons they added is a turn-off.

Basically it doesn't reach the heights and solid gameplay of Black Ops 2.

One other thing with BOIII's MP is it uses a "hero" system. You build up a meter and then you can do stuff like a ground pound that kills people or you get a bow and arrow that insta kills on hits or you can turn invisible or whatever. And you unlock all these guys and their abilities.

That's in addition to your regular loadout stuff. I think AW is the last game with just a loadout, Ghosts is the last game that's ground bound but BO II is better than both MP wise. I think BO II is the most popular MP after BOIII still, at least it is on PC. It and IW were around the same player count.

Haven't played BO2, but honestly: BO3 is "tolerable" if they dropped the wall run and sliding systems. It (coming from CoD4 and MW2/3) completely changed the gameplay for the worse IMO. More so than user controlled killstreaks (which I hated since introduction in MW2). BUT: It's still Call of Duty and the maps are (mostly) solid from the little I played with that "starter pack" I got off Humble Bundle on Steam. Sadly, the mod tools aren't available for the starter pack on Steam, so I haven't seen what all the PC community has done in trying to "fix" the game.

The wallrunning, double jump and sliding is way better in IW. BOIII's seems sorta tacked on, and very few of the maps are even setup for it outside of an area here or there. A few have alternate paths that go nowhere special other than to let you wall run to them instead of taking stars or whatever. IW's maps become better as you use them.

Also IW shamelessly rips off Titanfall in terms of how it operates momentum-wise which I'm more than fine with. They don't get it anywhere close but you don't dead stop like BOIII.

Actually, it works more like Brink at times.

Hopefully WWII will have much better wall running and stuff to make it so you never stop moving like grapples or phase shifts ala Titanfall 2.

Basically you have your standard hardcore mod, other old standard things like prop hunt which nobody plays, I think there is a mod that takes out the wallrunning/heroes or tones it way down. Getting a game for anything through the server browser is basically as futile as using the matchmaking though.

Then the other 99% of stuff in the workshop is related to Zombies.

Black Ops 3 MP was great, they made a bunch of changes and now it's really good. BOII was perfect as far as late era CoD games goes though and like benji said it's still popular on PC.

For w/e reasons pc gamers only seem to fuck with the treyarch games though after BO3 that might be changing.

I still play BLOPS 3 on PC. There isn't much action beyond TDM though.

only reason i still dont have installed is because its 60 fucking gigs and treyarch decided to stop doing what CoD has always done and separate multiplayer from singleplayer.

Thank you for the considerate thoughts you all offered on 3. I have let my son play, while I watch and make sure that it's not too violent for him. He has already waived off the single player on both IW and 3. it's too violent. He said there was torture involved. I must not have been sitting there for those moments.

He was commenting on how the momentum was different, but we didn't have a shared vocabulary to discuss it.  He wants me to play Titanfall 2,  then he got into IW, now he's into BLOPs3.

As a note too, the Treyarch CoD games are always WAY more violent that the other studios'. That's how they kinda made a name for themselves going back to WaW. They do the violent pulpy CoD campaigns, then IW would continue to make the "plz take us seriously" stuff with Sledgehammer coming up in a kind of middleground.

Also give your son daps for having excellent tastes. In Titanfall, we're a family
