They're releasing a 2DS XL this summer. $149. Clamshell form factor.

It's not unheard of for them to release hardware revisions of older platforms after new systems come out, but still...why? The New 3DS, New 3DS XL, and 2DS weren't enough already?

Safe for an Animal Crossing Bundle the normal New 3ds couldn't be bought here for about half a year. I tried around Christmas and had to settle for a 2ds.

This is probably the new middle price option, maybe cheaper for them to produce.

Apparently so. After the Black Friday black and white editions, that was it.

Neither have I. The last game I played some of was DQ7 when it came out, which I got bored of and sold off. I later got Dragonfall Fusions and Mario Maker...and didn't play them.

Yeah, JohnTV was all hyped for this on Twitter, and I could not figure out why, for the life of me.

My local game store was also a bit baffled by this, as well as the recently abandoned production on the standard 3DS – I guess Nintendo is admitting that lenticular just gives people headaches.

If what I've heard on 8-4 Play is representative, then it's because he's a just that much of a Nintendo fan. But he also likes to buy special edition systems and such (but he's not a collector, because reasons), so this might just be an opportunity to buy yet another slew of coloured plastics.

It's also weird cause the software coming out for 3DS seems to have slowed down incredibly. Although Nintendo did announce a bunch of stuff and some F2P experiments. But I guess the target market for this doesn't care about new stuff.

I would probably buy one of these if I needed a replacement for one of my other two units. This month there is a new/old Fire Emblem and I suspect that it will be the last 3DS game for me.
