When I moved to Japan I emailed Yuzo asking where I could pick up his stuff on CD. He said just to pop by his office and he'd burn me some. I took a tour of the studio and then we went out to dinner with him and Ayano (his sister AKA the lady who did all the SOR sprite work). That was pretty much the most awesome day of my life, or maybe it's tied with the day that the singing Daytona guy showed up at the bar

I'm more partial to SoR1 but SoR2 is fucking genius as well.

The only reason for that is I never got to play SoR2 when I was a kid. Weirdly enough I don't think I ever saw it in a shop or something.

I can't really disagree with the premise of this thread. Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Shatter, and Rez are the only games that come close to SOR1/2 for me.

Agreed..  SOR1 had less tracks, but every single track on SOR1 was absolute pure Koshiro GOLD.  More tracks doesn't always mean better.  There were certain tracks on SOR2 that started to shows hints of his descent into SOR3 oddities.

I've enjoyed Beyond Oasias some time ago on a Megadrive collection, but that soundtrack def made it a feat at some points  I guess the soundchip couldn't keep up with whatever he wanted to pull off, because ultimately it was a ear scratching mess.

There are soundtracks that can be as good as (though they are few and far between) but I agree that none of them can top it.

SoR2 is my favorite but I personally feel SoR3 is the more impressive album in terms of what he set out to do and what it accomplished. Now instead of watching netflix I'm going to youtube the OST during my bus ride, thanks!

And going back to Koshiro, I'd say Revenge of Shinobi is neck and neck with SOR1 & 2 also..
