I was trying to think of white dudes that pulled the look off, and I remembered that guitarist dude in the band Korn. His name was Head. I thought he looked cool back then, but maybe it's just in relation the rest of his ugly bandmates.

Then I read his Wikipedia and read that he left the band in 2005, became a born again and released a Christian album in 2008. LAWL

It can work on some white people. As a black person I can't see why it's so offensive to see white people with dreads oftentimes the people with the most to say are other white people.

I have a friend of a friend on Facebook who it seems is very self conscious about her dreads. At least one post a week is dedicated to some argument she's had with someone about 'cultural appropriation'

Well actually, he didn't have dreads back in the day, it was the other guitarist. Head had some sort of braids or whatever. Then one day he undid his braids and found Jesus, and that's when he got dreads.

But yes, fuck Head.
