Why, God, why?!

The Peanuts are a twin-girl band from Japan circa 1963--the precursor to Pink Lady, who in turn gave way to PuffyAmiYumi and other modern "two girl" acts. Their music is totally peppy and awesome, if totally devoid of guitars, percussion, production, or other things normally associated with modern music.

I saw a TV documentary about the Peanuts while I was in Japan, and now I'm totally addicted to their chirpy, retro sound. They are to manufactured Japanese girl pop what Elvis Presley is to American Rock 'n' Roll. Even today, modern artists still cover their songs several times a year.

In any case, I'm really confused: is this more-or-less-pathetic than standard Wacky Jappy love? Or is it so bizarre that it's somehow cool again? I think I'm totally off the charts at this point.
