Shit, shit, aw shit.

Guy was good. I kept hoping he'd be able to pull together another film, even his not-great ones are interesting. Hell, I liked Monkey Shines a lot fer crying out loud. Shame that the guy who helped break the ratings system and essentially wrote the book on modern horror filmmaking, not just zombies, was so rarely a figure in mainstream cinema. But then again, that's exactly how crazy and great films like Martin and Monkey Shines get made.

RIP to a true legend of cinema.

I met him two years ago, he was really cool, super friendly and still eager to talk about his old movies. He was damn sharp and looked super healthy. It's a shame. His movies are classic.

If anyone starts the zombie apocalypse and comes back to life, it will be George Romero. I hate that he died but the last movie he really made was in 2005 with Land of the Dead, then he just did B-movies after that. He was absolutely the godfather of the zombie movie genre through. 2017 is looking grim.

I'm still at a cross-roads of whether Romero's original 1978 Dawn of the Dead or Zack Snyder's 2004 re-make is better. The original had the badass biker gang but the re-make's beginning and crazy van escape were amazing. I could've done without the zombie baby garbage but eh. It also had the sniper at the gun shop holding up signs on who to shoot which was fun.

I saw Day of the Dead in theaters during its initial theatrical run. I'd never seen anything so disturbing in my young life. His works were formative for me, for better or worse.

Day of the Dead was definitely gruesome with the scene where the zombies legit rip the man in half and his entrails are all just spilling out. I still have love for Bub though :(

Huh. Apparently they're trying to re-make Day of the Dead this year and I didn't even realize.

I mean, sure, that's Bub. Doubt it'll measure up to Romero's original.

Monkey Shines is great, no weirdness in liking it.

He was an uneven director. But even so there's no denying that he was maybe the most important horror director of the last 40 years if only for being the father of undead cannibalistic zombies.
We could do worse than having more free-minded directors not afraid of having an impromptu cream pie fight today.

I saw Night Of The Living Dead long ago but that was the only film of his I had seen until last night, when I watched Day Of The Night. Man that shit is crazy
 :mindblown

Pretty sure I saw the trailer long ago, featuring Bub, and I assumed it was some corny dark comedy shit. Noooope. Real good movie.

Never was a big fan of Bub or the tendency of Romero to drift to "humans are the real monsters and zombies are a-ok all things considered" which culminated in Land of the Dead -a film I kinda like and has a lot of fun ideas. How on the nose it is doesn't bother me that much if you take it as an obvious farce-. Day of the Dead is still ace tho.
