The GOAT.

The zoom in on Michael's face. The contrast with him with his family, alone. And now he's still alone. The wonderful part is that Michael looks so young when zoomed out. But as it starts to zoom in you start to see the flaws, and wrinkles in his face, as if he wears down with age from his own hubris and isolation in real time. A man who last everything, yet gained everything. Combined with that wonderful, wonderful score.

The greatest film ending of all time.

Gotta be honest. I never got the hype for Blade Runner. It's okay, I guess. But never understood why people like that scene in particular so much.

It's the "Pinocchio finally becomes a real boy" scene of Blade Runner's neo-noir fairy tale. Roy Batty at the end of his life, staring down as Deckard dangles from a ledge hundreds of feet in the air, finally understands what it means to be human and commits a true act of defiance [against not only his programming and his memories, but even against his own emotions and desires]. In the end he finally understands mortality about the loss associated with that, but by saving Deckard he ensures that the memories of the replicant named Roy Batty will survive a little while longer, in a way achieving the longer life that he'd desperately sought.

And it's really well directed and acted.

I understand the scene but the movie has never clicked with me. I get why that scene in particular is famous. I think my reaction to Blade Runner is a consequence of watching the cut with the voice over narration.

man, Lee Marvin was so good. I think about Point Blank on occasion (the stattaco walking scene) when I feel confident while approaching something. Though I could never do as such while being as cool and certainly not as functionally alcoholic as he was. Anyways, here's my favorite inspirational speech in all of cinema.

so the apparent reason this very excellent channel hasn't seen a recent update is because its owner went pro. He's got a video essay on a recent Criterion release (Tampopo), with more to come, presumably. Good for him.

legitimately think this is brilliant beyond being Trek, one of those instances where a homage does it better than the original inspiration (this and the Mutara Nebula battle being submarine/naval battles)

i prefer the claustrophobic scale and pacing here (along with Kirk/Khan exchanges obviously) to some of the great and similar but larger scale MEGA BUDGET stuff in say, Master and Commander

This is probably the only good thing that came out of Men Behind the Sun. Or at the very least it made me laugh.

Really enjoyed this Eli Roth masterpiece. Ana de Armas was one of the bad girls in this one.
