I admit I'm kind of surprised how smoothly the new forum seems to be running. I wonder how long the peace will last.
Until the next greedy publisher/dev decides to fuck us in the ass with lootboxes!!!!!!!!!
Am I the only person that doesn't have an issue with those? I feel like gaf made that much bigger of a deal than they were.
Average GAFer in 2017 is an aging white dude in his mid-30s with a shitty low-wage IT job who has become super bitter than Final Fantasy (and other "ACTUAL GOOD GAMES") isn't the biggest title in the industry anymore. They overwhelmingly demand experiences from gaming that are most similar to those from their teenage years: linear, story-focused singleplayer experiences, yet when those games come out they refuse to buy them full price (because of their shit job). They don't have much going for them in their life besides video games.
They overwhelmingly believe industry trends like loot boxes are the work of "evil, greedy" corporation execs scheming ways to "milk" them out of more money in smoke-filled boardrooms, instead of a natural adaptation based on hard data from a customer base that waits for big discounts or buys used. They genuinely believe that there are grand conspiracies to force them to play bad games.
You'll commonly see them asserting that a developer "gutted" a game, removing content to be sold as DLC, demonstrating a startling lack of understanding about how games are actually made. Mods at Neogaf also actively allowed users to witchhunt devs ie "the person responsible for this!" on twitter, etc. despite their infamous zero-tolerance policies for similar tactics by gamegaters.
This all served to push most devs off of gaf after 2010 or so.
