There's a definite need for a forum that is more bore-like in terms of open discussion. Obviously, it won't be here, because it's quite clear that demi is happy with things as they are and that's a *good* thing - part of the charm of The Bore is the smaller community who mostly take all posts in good faith, even if they are diametrically opposed to the viewpoints within. I can, however, see the growth of a new, more-permissive forum out of the rubble of GAF. It'll never be best-GAF, but it'd be busy enough.

This is one of the reasons I actually like this community more than most others I've found – because most posters do not automatically assume you have the worst possible intentions behind what you say. This has become probably the biggest issue with any sort of online discourse in general. Not just on GAF or now resetera. It's simply everywhere. For a variety of reasons, people just jump from point A to point Z. If you say you like X, you must be Y... and Y is a terrible, shameful thing. It never matters what else you've done in the past to show you aren't a Y.

It's frustrating because you can't have a conversation with anyone when the discourse is automatically polarized right from the jump.

Because it was a reply to another poster after I ignored her after her reply. No one else replied as I didn't get a notification.

Honestly she comes across more like she demands people stop buying it and feel shit for doing so. She also argue about every game and movies tv etc that she thinks is sexist. Never seen her post anything else.
I see how that would be annoying if you don't share her views, but that doesn't seem all that serious to me.

Sure you do. Just constant shitposting and now mod powers throwing out warnings against replies she don't like.

Derailing threads all the time with same stick is no better than trolling.

Thankfully we can ignore mods now and not get perma banned right away. So it could be worse it could be neogaf. So you got a point I guess.

lol yeah.

My favourite one, which I have seen a few times on GAF, is people claiming an opinion someone holds is shared by members of the Alt-Right. The implication being, you are either a member of the Alt-Right, or if you're not, you must change your opinion. The latter being fucking absurd.

Are you really saying that you must allow what you think and believe to be dictated by whether or not members of the Alt-Right also think the same thing? What a fucking ridiculous notion.

Just noticed that threads on GAF no longer turn gray when you’ve viewed the latest post in a thread. I guess Tyler doesn’t want people to notice how little activity there is.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/kevin-spacey-issues-statement-on-sexual-assault-allegations.2403/page-12#post-248265

I'm genuinely confused here. Is the definition of sexual assault evolving?

Spacey didn't even take it as far as EviLore did if we're to believe Rapp's account stopped where he claimed it did.
Kid was 14 at the time. Bringing him to the party was already taking it too far really.
this is 86 folks.
HEIGHT of the gay panic and the aids epidemic.
what is a 14 year old who when through that to do or say!?

The Gay Community has every right to shit on Spacy now. They FOUGHT so hard to remove the "harvest of souls" stigma off them just to see this dude come out to deflect this action?

Mods should have just banned this guy getting warned on the page instead of coddling his insanity and telling him his concerns are valid.

Otherwise every thread about every youtuber is going to be filled with derails about how they said or did bad thing

I get the argument against Kojima but Gaffers whining about it just makes me care about it less instead of more.

I get that. Conversations in this thread get lost because sometimes you can't parse whether someone completely disagrees or completely agrees with some post on another forum. I don't even know what Morrigan said, just said that it wouldn't shock me if Kojima wasn't exactly a paragon of women's rights given his content.

I wouldn't say I'm arguing against Kojima as in, I don't exactly think it's wrong but there is a discussion to be had without it being the extremes of "censor it you altright asshole" or "lol look at this S J W Smithers shielding his eyes grow up you fundamentalist christian".

Enjoy whatever you like, unless it's something like child porn or you're watching liveleak videos of people getting their head split open I don't see issues with it. Can't exactly act as a moral guardian when I watch Troma movies.

Well i agree on the premise that Kojima has sexist, perhaps potentially "outrage" worthy, stuff like Quiet(mostly) but those usual exGaffers cry wolf on pretty much anything out there and i don't wish to be assosiated with those people just because we happen to agree on some particular case. Like, i dunno, i see those asshats worse than what Kojima does.

The last thing I expected to see in this thread was a quote that included lyrics from a Mentors song. Frequent loud playing of "Golden Showers" and "Four F Club" was very briefly a thing back in college.

Yep all the non stop daily posters who kept Gaf overflowing with threads moved off. Now all they have are the people who only mostly read not interact or create threads.

It's a sad sight really. He fiddled whilst his Rome burned.

It will be a desert when E3 2018 hits.

Even more so now as if he was a nonentity last year, he'll be persona non grata now.

What a fall from grace. From the 'heights' of your own documentary and being on Giant Bomb. To struggling to keep your forum afloat with content.

What's crazy about this, is that in most businesses, losing all of your staff overnight would be fairly devastating, but wouldn't be the end of the world (hire more staff). Losing all of your customers overnight would be more devastating, but again, recoverable. Losing all your products overnight would be very devastating (for example to fire or theft), but that's what insurance is for.

Tyler lost all 3, at once, and the customers are the product. There was no budget for staff, there was no insurance for the product.

If the site had splintered into a bunch of small, shitty communities, then maybe, in time, everyone would reconvene back at NeoGAF down the road.

But a better, newer, feature-rich, secure forum emerged and welcomed Tyler's community en-mass. And did so with almost no hitches, downtime or drama.

It was a perfect storm and Tyler's hubris bit him in the ass so fucking hard. Can't say it didn't happen to a more deserving individual.

Just realised Lime shitposting me. Now I am truly one of you?

Bish also losing it calling others sly. They read bad news get angry and take it out on the cat in this case the closest person being other forum posters. Bet he is really annoyed now as it hits him that he can't just perma ban everyone and then move on to read the next piece of news that angers him.

Not only isn't it productive they will end up hurting themselves more than any goobergate or alt right.

This post here sums up exactly the problem with some people on the Left.

Quote
Even as a liberal this seems to be a bit of an overexaggeration / fearmongering. I honestly don't feel like I'm under a constant threat from the alt-right. This is being used much like how ISIS is by the Republican Party.

The way some people speak about the Alt-Right you'd think they were some highly-organised secret society akin to the Illuminati that are infiltrating all corners of Government. Pretty much all serious journalism into the Alt-Right has only ever shown it to be a vague, nebulous group where it's not really clear how many are just a bunch of shitposters on 4chan and how many are actually serious. What it is not, in any case, is a highly organised movement with a mass membership.

That's not to say there hsn't been a rise in far-right popularity, there has, particularly in Europe, but the idea that there is like a Nazi around every corner is so ridiculously out of proportion. I will mention that the rise in far-right popularity in Europe is partly down to the migrant crises and the sheer level of Islamic terrorism in recent years. The far-right in that respect have filled the void the Left has created

A lot of the times 'Alt-Right' was used on GAF was basically against anti-Social Studies Warrior types. The fuuny thing about that is pretty much all of the popular anti-Social Studies Warrior youtubers are Left-leaning and were there before Alt-Right really became mainstream. Now they are retroactively describing that pushback as 'Alt-Right'. It is obvious why. To be honest though, the rise of the Alt-Right allowed them to deflect that pushback. That's really unfortunate because the Left have just been doubling down over the last couple of years as a result.

I heard there was an emote vacancy since Cookie Monster left.

Can we get an Evilore emote?

We could use this photo since it'll inspire people to lose weight.

I wonder if Gaf (new or old) will make as big of a deal of this as it should. Literally thousands of users left this board for less than Kevin Spacey did, yet I see people on the internet applauding his courage to come out? If Spacey did this to a female, what would the outrage level be vs what we have now? I’m not trying to start something, I’m seriously asking. Because I honestly feel like the consequences aren’t equal at this point.

 :lol

It begins.

Man, I really like Spacey as well (he's bi), but this sounds pretty damn gross. How many more of these Hollywood types did everyone know about their sexual attacks? The silver lining is that everything is now coming out.

Biggest SONY news today (Paris Games Show) and post shower assault #metoo:

NeoGAF:
365 posts.

Resetera:
6500 posts.

HOLY FUCK. (Am I missing some old NeoGAF thread???)

Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.

Era is speed climbing. Soon over 150+ pages.

GAF can barely crack 9

RIP  :crowdlaff

It will be a desert when E3 2018 hits.

Depends on reset servers.
I can see GAF gaining some back during e3 or a similarly have traffic spike if reset struggles.  I imagine the number of active users on reset will double/triple+ between then and now.

But if reset holds up and GAF isn't getting updated I can see it being the straw that breaks Malka's back.

What'll probably happen:

- Evilore will open registration to free emails and make the approval process easier
- GAF will get overrun with trolls
- After a while, it'll become a ghost town

Shame because I really dislike Resetera's layout.

Nah. E3 is far off. Reset will be established by then, and too many ppl were banned from NeoGAF. There's no going back.

And Malka is too cheap/stupid to do anything about his ancient forum software. He's a dumb dumb.  :derp

What gets me is that due to his need to have the site up, coupled with his inability to clamp down on moderation, he basically allowed GAF to, itself, act as a platform for the great migration. Days of posts begging for invites, drumming up interest and dumping on him in general could have been avoided by hiring a few temps and creating some new, invisible mods.
