OT's spent the past several weeks talking about the Weinstein story and the ensuing aftermath, and in the past week Evilore showed his hand by voicing skepticism at some claims. Sexual harassment was in the zeitgeist. The Amir0x shit also involved a former mod, a notorious member but still a former mod which was what made a lot of people brush it off. It was harder to slide a story about the site owner himself. Evilore also evidently didn't have such a distinguished mentally-challenged internal response that made the mod team implode back then.

well for me, Satch was my only account i've ever been on for gaf and i'll never be on another one. but rasta/arte has accounts to move on to if this one goes tits up. there are potentially three waiting for him already, which will probably also be shared. it's funny watching them do it but I'm not invested enough to participate.

In June 2017, a NeoGAF user and former mod, Amir0x, was arrested on child porn charges. The police reportedly found "53 images and one video of child porn on Goldberg's cell phone, as well as evidence of him downloading child porn on a laptop computer." The videos apparently depicted children as young as four years old.

"At that time," said one moderator, "news came in fast and we as a staff together decided to try to contact [Malka] and let him formulate a statement, because it's his site and all of that. It took quite a while to get in contact with him, and once he did, he dawdled on writing a statement. The statement he did put out ended up being far, far less than any of us had hoped for, and actually ended up putting crosshairs on some of us."

Malka's statement on Amir0x can be read in full here, which claims nobody knew Amir0x's real name, an explanation for why it took so long for the board to make an official statement on him. One moderator called that claim "patently false" and "the users knew it was crap."

Moderators weren't allowed to make any follow-up statements, resulting in understandable criticism over why the board would make such a milquetoast statement over its own history.

I bet you an avatar that gaf is dead, they have pissed off most of their potential userbase, and they'll go to either discord, here, Reset, Slaent, whatever else. Considering the fact that Reset currently is communicating with each community discord staff and they have each of these discords listed on their own server, Reset has prime opportunity to take a nice slice of Neogaf's pie. It won't ever be as big as neogaf, but every gaf discord I've been on besides the FGHQ discord says they're moving to Reset.

File me under #TeamReset if we're taking bets on who wins this. I don't think Gaf will have the userbase to sustain the threads it once did and a large part of its appeal is half, if not completely dead.
