If they can manage to build a solid community and are happy in the process, more power to them. I'm not so bitter to want former GAFers to fail, some of the members of the discord are good friends of mine.

I also happen to think it is going to crash and burn. The specific posters in leadership positions have always came off, to me at least, like they really wanted inside the GAF admin/mod clique. Now, instead of a genuine interest in building a new community to last, they're opportunistically throwing their own little clubhouse together while GAF is still smouldering. They just want to be kings of the castle this time.

Maybe it will make it but I really fucking doubt it, mostly because their motivations aren't coming from the right place. I've seen enough failed boards and been apart of enough splinter communities to know that a vast majority do not make it, due in part to poor leadership.

There was increasingly a growing chasm between how different opinions got moderated on GAF. including in PoliGAF. Honestly i gave up on even following that community quite a while ago and my few forays reminded me why.

I don't have a ton of hope for the new GAF offshoot, at least based on the initial PR pieces, but maybe it will surprise. That would be nice. A board that can moderate discussion more like GAF of ten, twelve years ago(though they can probably keep out the shoop da woop threads) as opposed to the last 5 would be a site I could endorse.
