See, the problem is that I can't just randomly talk about all the crazy shit. I can't just bring up that I did a 30 mile illegal mountain race in pouring rain at an average speed of 120 miles per hour, water shooting up so many feet in the air. I can't randomly say that I've illegally hiked through the side of the Grand Canyon and had to freestyle mountain climb back to safety, as every other handhold broke away with my back to certain death, then uncontrollably slide down to the ranger checkpoint and get impaled by a desert plant on my way down, luckily deciding earlier to have brought a quikclot pack with me. I can't say that I swam in a ridiculously strong riptide in Hawaii and had to barely make it to a coral reef and drag myself inch by inch along the reef back to shore, being gashed by the reef in a hundred different places, then smear sand in the wounds until they stopped bleeding, the ground soaked with blood, then walk miles back to my car, barefoot.

Not even that I train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and that I'll look anyone in the eyes, calm and resolved from a thousand fights.

Is that such a bad thing? Everyone seemed to like GAF just fine a week ago. What's wrong with that portion of the community wanting to continue on with what was a working model, only without the baggage? But besides having no EL at the helm, the biggest difference will be administration and moderation. Site ownership is being placed in an LLC, so there won't be any consolidated power. As for the mods, it's almost an entirely new team, who have spent the last few days going over tons of feedback about what needs to be changed.

I don't know if it's true (there's probably other possible explanations for the bans of people joining Discord, like Lore getting a peek to the Discord user list ?) but it's not exactly reassuring.

The vetting process only exists to make sure that fellow gaffers can quickly access the new forum once it's running, without inviting trolls to try and register hundreds of accounts, stealing other users identities in the process.

The vetting process is nonselective and nonbiased. If you have an account here that does not give us reason to be suspicios - like a member one page earlier with one total post - you will get in.

Or would've gotten in rather, as SteamGAF decided to close invitations at 1K users.

In the future, a normal moderated registration process similar to GAF is planned.

I honestly wouldn’t worry much about personal information being spied on. I’m skeptical of the claims being made. I think the uncontrolled fire publicly on display probably has everyone in charge there busy enough as it is without worrying about what people are PMing each other. There’s certainly 0 percent chance that anyone is manually reading individual messages one by one in full.

Querying the database for Discord mentions isn’t completely implausible but I honestly still think it’s pretty unlikely without more verification. If it were the case, I understand that it’d be a bit troubling all the same but I don’t know if it’s the sort of privacy breach I’d really be concerned about. Like you mentioned not sharing personal information and if they were trying to stamp out Discord mentions they’re not going to inadvertently stumble upon your private deep thoughts or anything that you shared with another user.
