I'll be honest, don't think Resetera will last as long as some of y'all think.
In a few weeks a lot of the 3000 people posting will just give up. It won't be exciting anymore, it doesn't have exactly everything they would want, and they'll move on. I hope it's a success for the people involved but I'll give it a few weeks before I say so.
Either way even if it continues to exist with half the member that's a major blow to GAF (the hits keep on coming) which will never be like it was before this mess anyway. So that's cool.
The design is still godawful. Looks like a web 2.0 version of an early aughts free forum toolkit.
I don't know. I think the communities will do their thing just fine. I guess there's doubts it can reach the critical mass of users necessary to really act as a substite to GAF as a decently centralized videogame news ticker (though GAF had a lot of blind spots in that regard), but that's a first world problem so to speak. Maybe some issues at drawing people beyond the GAF bubble because of the clique culture and how archaic message boards are (GAF stayed afloat mostly because of inertia).
Guess we'll see.
As for GAF, the Emperor is naked. Maybe a week from now things will go back to normal, maybe random lurkers without adblock will continue to bring enough clicks. But I think the illusion it was too big to fail has been shattered forever.
