South Park : Fractured But Whole
« on: October 19, 2017, 03:25:22 AM »
Anyone pick this up? Im about 6 hours in and so far it's a lot better than Stick of Truth which was good in its own right.

The combat system is more Fire Emblem than Paper Mario which imo is a lot better.

Still haven't finished Stick of Truth. The writing is spot on and wandering around the town and engaging with the peeps there was exactly what I always wanted from a South Park game. But the gameplay is so fucking tedious that I lost interest somewhere after you escape from that alien ship.

I'm playing on the hardest combat difficulty, and it's a lot more tactical than SoT. It's not really hard though. The general difficulty is supposedly just a joke, and doesnt affect anything but I'm not a 100% sure.

So far it's more enjoyable than SoT, but the joy of walking through South Park is less than in SoT because that isnt actually new.

Some good stuff in there though, I especially liked the "stop screwing around" teacher :P.

I know the black scaler is a joke. But there is a "Mastermind" difficulty.

https://www.xboxachievements.com/game/south-park-the-fractured-but-whole/achievement/141332-The-Token-Experience.html

Im playing on that, not so hard in the first 8 hrs.

I just finished the first day and night, and so far I'm digging this. Not really a fan of the show, but I like it in vidyagame form. I think because it has to make an effort to be less immediately topical about things.

No, as in, not just in the "it's harder so you get a black character"-joke sense, but also that it's not actually changing anything in terms of difficulty.

But this says otherwise:

So far it's really easy on normal, and you know I'm a wuss. A man gamer like you can probably handle hard easily.

I 100%ed it. I only have 2 cheevos missing - The Token Experience and a super hard optional battle with a story character, and I probably won't do either of those.

Loved the game. Maybe more than the first. The end game got a little sloggy and there is a heal ultimate that is WAY overpowered but overall I thought it was great.

And that Gay Fish/Sea Man/get mama to heaven side quest was a fucking riot.

About eleven hours in, I'm still loving it but I'm noticing I can only really play for a few hours before I get kinda bored of the humor? The battle system is pretty sweet though.

I thought the funniest parts were the first day and last part. The middle isn't as good, and if you're playing 8+ hours in one sitting you may just be tired. This happened to me lol.

I got the game on the cheap for ps4 last night.
Only played up to after you can pick classes. Been a little busy with going to every house and punching every object and NPC.

Haven't played since and I'm not really feeling the pull. The Stick of Truth was novel at the time so maybe that is that.

Y’all gonna make me end up getting this outside of a rental. I loved the first. What’s the length on this? I read 15 hours if you plow through the main story and 20-25 if you do all the side quests. Considering it took me 18 hours to finish Evil Within 2, that seems okay for a rental though.

20 to 25 hours for most. And there appears to be a couple of 3 hour DLCs over the next year.

I am really happy they gave us some more Randy Marsh in this game. TSOT didn't feature enough of him.

It'd be useful for people to know about Cat Pee Cheesing from the episode Major Boobage and Kanye West from Fishsticks.

I still think SOT is better but I'm only about 9 hours in or so. It feels like a chore traversing the town now since the fast travel stations seem so spread out. I also don't enjoy the battle system much more, but that could just be because I enjoy straight turn based a lot more. Sometimes battles feel like they drag on way too long in FBW compared to SOT. It's still funny though, and worth it for the south park humor.

For those who think they'd like to try before buying, PSN and XBL now have free-trials available starting today. Though it should be noted that these trials are limited to 1 hour.

Also pretty sure the trials will be global, but availability might depend on when your digital storefront updates.

Finished this last night. 19 and some hours. Did all of the side quests except the collect-a-thon stuff, and I think I only had to find one more cat and put up one more poster.

Good stuff. Liked it. You can tell it's good because I finished it.

I might try Stick of Truth. I liked it at launch, but I hit a buggo that halted progression and never went back. I think it may have had annoying load times or something too.

Yea the superheroes is just a skin. Nothing like the episodes about Cthulu and BP spill. Just good old South Park, and quite a bit original. I would say Parker nearly put 2 seasons of writing into this game.

So I played the 1 hour timed demo. 15 minutes of it was introductory stuff, 20 minutes of it was playing the game and the remaining 25 minutes I spent walking back and forth trying to figure out how to get more instragram followers. I got one. Nobody else would take a picture with me. What did I miss?

It's a lot like Instagram, you get grandma first and then other randos until you get enough followers where more popular people want to follow you. They'll come naturally in the game.

Miss... in the game? 1 hour really isn't enough to enjoy the game.

You get instagram followers by holding LT (or whatever is on PS4) and you'll see an icon above people's heads. Then you walk up, and press the button for a selfie (it'll be at the bottom of the page). Some people in the city won't selfie you unless you do something for them or have more followers.

Right I think I figured it out. I was just walking upto people, like Butter's Dad and the mailman and taking selfies. I wondered why my follower count didn't increase from 1.
